Chip Palombini 1038133 Posted January 18, 2008 at 07:59 PM Posted January 18, 2008 at 07:59 PM Hey- I have X-Plane V8.21 and installed the xsquawkbox plug in, but my scenery doesn't have any taxiway markers so when I get taxi instructions from ground control... well you see where that ends up. Does anyone know where to get scenery that will make flying with Xsquawkbox more enjoyable? Thanks in advance for your help!
Wade Williams 877539 Posted January 18, 2008 at 08:29 PM Posted January 18, 2008 at 08:29 PM Chip, Here: http://www.x-plane.org/home/tdavis/scenery8/xp8scenery.html It's also quite easy to add taxiway markings and signs to an airport using World Editor (WED). http://scenery.x-plane.com/ Researching an airport is not that hard, thanks to Google Earth. You can zoom in far enough to see all the taxiway markings and get exactly lat/long so you know what to put where. Naturally, you can't see the signs, but using an airport diagram, when you see a small sign to the right of taxiway J, it's pretty easy to guess that's a sign saying you're on taxiway J. In short, guessing what signs go where is not difficult. You might not be perfect, but you'd be pretty close.
Chip Palombini 1038133 Posted January 18, 2008 at 08:36 PM Author Posted January 18, 2008 at 08:36 PM Thanks for the quick reply! I'm a pilot and I tried using the AOPA diagram to taxi in X-Plane but it was too confusing... Thanks a bunch!

G'day, i am up to disc 4 with installation, but have already solved this problem. Will continue to use Flightsim Commander and will keep FSX on the drive. Will update AFCAD files and scenery with FSX. Then i will run the database manager in FS Commander to keep all the scenery and airport data up to date. Run X-plane Log onto Vatsim for flight. Run FS commander when flying online ...ZOOM down to airports, complete will all the latest AFCAD data and taxiways. Simple (-: Use FS9 for the data updates if you have not purhased FSX ..cheaper option.
Keith Smith Posted January 21, 2008 at 02:15 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 02:15 PM I taxi from the external view and orient myself using freely available airport diagrams on another monitor. It's really not a problem. Over time, more and more airports are having taxiway markings added, too.
Reece Hunter Posted January 22, 2008 at 05:34 AM Posted January 22, 2008 at 05:34 AM This is begging for a plugin which displays the airport diagram then the airplane's current position super-imposed on top. Could the airport layout info be extracted from the apt.dat file? RH ___________________ Reece Hunter vACC Philippines Chief
Shawn Goldsworthy 925085 Posted January 23, 2008 at 04:12 PM Posted January 23, 2008 at 04:12 PM One thing to add Chip. The ability to change taxiway markings and add signage, etc was significantly improved in the release of V8.50. You mention you are running V8.21. You can go to X-plane.com and update to V8.64 for free. Every day there are new sceneries coming out.
