Steve Willis 1027702 Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:52 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:52 PM 80 gig and defrag ...that took a while.(((-: Just played it for 15 mins. My reaction was "THIS IS IT". Now it actually feels like im flying, rather than the feeling of flying on a mono-rail which can change direction. Enough said. All the talk of pitch issues, control issues, set-up being a headache and difficult.?? Basically all [Mod - lovely stuff]. Setting up the joystick / calibration was basically the ONLY fuss to contend with. The actual scenery data is stunning. FPS?? don't know, ( feels like 80+ ) have to figure out the FPS counter, BLURRY scenery??? There is no blurry scenery. Smooth as silk, lovely satellite imagery . And that's with the graphics on low.. LOL. True to my word. There is a "well oiled machine" at work, spinning bull on forums making sure the truth doesn't get out on m[Mod - Happy Thoughts].All these mammoth threads on all the forums, with so many polished writers, who visit many forums, with what it seems endless TIME to keep the spin rolling. Almost like it was a full time job. X-Plane scares MS i think. FSX? and all the issues. Look at practically what one man, Austin Miles has done ...X-Plane Brilliant. EDIT: Birds flocks ..brilliant. Autogen.. brilliant... IT BLENDS with the imagery. Like how it does in reality,,, when you look out of a real plane from the window.? Most honest way to describe it.(-: Bush Fires?? ... Cars on roads ..?? Seriously impressed.
Steve Willis 1027702 Posted January 21, 2008 at 05:21 PM Author Posted January 21, 2008 at 05:21 PM Final comment on the "well oiled machine". 5000 posts over a 5 year period, on any one of the major forums out there. Very polished indeed. On others forums visited by these "keen" simmers (-: average 1 post per day, increasing exponentially, repeating the myths, over and over and over again. Not asking anyone to believe me, just suggesting people take note of these 'members' with all this time to spend on forums. (((-:

Keith Smith Posted February 20, 2008 at 07:27 PM Posted February 20, 2008 at 07:27 PM Heart warming to see a reaction like this....and also incredibly rare. Xplane is rough around the edges (I've been using it since V4) and it normally takes ppl a while to warm up to it, and for them to set their rendering settings just right to get the most out of their box. Good show, Steve.

Good show, Steve. Mate, after flying 1600 miles out of YPPH Perth to Christamss Island in the SR-71 Blackbird, i smashed of my landing gear against the runway ...all over in a puff of smoke. All because on the contours and slopes X-plane models on the real life runway. You have to land going up hill sometimes ??? It's a whole new ball game and element to deal with. Way too cool. Flat boring runways ..never again.(-: Just now i have downloaded the 737 -700 from Benedikt Stratman and Co. Free and simply brilliant. It's back to school again. Everything i learned in FSX is null and void. Finally a sim that makes you use the brain power on a level most people don't realise. Just starting the the thing up was an eye opener. Fuel tanks levels etc, electrics .... my head hurts and it's great. X-plane really provides a great sense of satisfaction when you actually get the real life procedures mastered. Keith Smith Posted February 21, 2008 at 04:41 PM Posted February 21, 2008 at 04:41 PM Steve, I'm with ya there on 99% of everything you said. I haven't flown MSFS since V5, but I'm pretty sure that the startup sequence on the payware planes (if not on the stock ones) is modeled in great detail. Otherwise, it's just great hearing ppl discovering what x-plane has to offer.

Why so late in checking? I still ask myself that (-: I wish i had taken the advice of a chap a few years back to go X-plane. Now i have hundreds of dollars of add-ons etc just collecting dust. Still they did serve a purpose at the time. FS commander i still use for flight planning. Open up the Flight plan file with notepad, and all the correct lat -lon coordinates needed for X-plane FMS plans are provided as luck would have it Making X-plane FMS plans takes minutes. A bonus for sure. Plus i can put in all the taxi way signs etc, for each airport. All detailed perfectly is FS commander at 3 mile zoom. Sweet. I'll get Goodway planner in the future. Keith Smith Posted February 21, 2008 at 05:00 PM Posted February 21, 2008 at 05:00 PM Steve, Give simroutes.com a try for flights within North America. There are thousands of preferred routes in there which are constantly updated, or you can enter your own. Either way, you can then export the plan from simroutes into an xplane-compatible format.
