Do you have a 2 Sound Card set up?

If so, that makes it easy: just switch your sound cards or headset plugs so that the FS9 sound goes out the primary sound card, but set VATSIM functions to go through the alternate. Basically, Windows will set 1 of the cards as a default. This is where all default sounds are piped through, FS9, Itunes, programs, everything. Then, when you have a second card, you go into your Pilot or ATC client and set up which card you want to use for each function.

To switch the Windows XP default card, go to Control Panel > Sounds/Speech/Audio > Sounds/Audio Devices > Audio Tab

Once there, you can switch the default Playback and default Recording sound card, you should see both cards listed under each tab. Choose the card with the speakers ...and FS9 should pipe through that card. You need to restart FS9 if it's running when you change that. Then choose the alternate card for Headset option in your Pilot Client.

If you don't have two sound cards, I don't see how your problem is occurring. If you only have one sound card, you shouldn't be able to switch anything...it all should be going through one source. Basically, you can only choose a headset OR speakers, but not both (or at least, I've never seen a single card that can do this).

But you say that FS9 and Client sound goes through headset, while everything else goes through speakers...so I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume you have 2 cards.
