USB headest not working

I purchased a Plantronics USB 650 headset, with a USB adapter. It's basically a normal headset that you plug into a USB adapter, which plugs into your computer, acting as a USB headset.

It has been working fine for over a month now. Today, I opened up Windows Messenger, the headset is no longer recognized by windows.

I've uninstalled windows messenger, and have tried rebooting numerous times. According to the plantronics website, they say I should have "USB Audio Device" under Sound, Video, and game controllers in my device manager. I do not, and don't know where to find that. Not sure if this is the problem.

Any suggestions? It's not the USB port because my joystick works in the port.

I just tried it again, and Windows says,

One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.

You'll have to install (or reinstall) the drivers that came with the adapter.

I am unable to find a driver that is installable.

I found a driver for Plantronics USB adapter, and it comes as an .exe. I click, that and it says to extract it. I extract to the Windows driver folder, and still having the same problem.

To install the driver, you would have to pay attention to where you extract it to. Make a note of that folder, then use that folder as the drive disk or location when attempting to install or update the driver for the failing (unrecognized) device.

When installing a drive, one of the options is to have the system allow you to supply the path.

I try that and it says,

The specific location does not contain information for your hardware.

There are three possible options from here. If you’re sure the drivers are specific for your hardware, then don’t use the option to update what you have

Goto Control Panel -> Add Hardware -> Next -> (tick yes already) -> Next -> (on the Add Hardware Wizard screen select) Add a new hardware device -> New -> (tick) Install the hardware -> New -> (Select) Sound, video and game controllers -> Next -> (click) Have Disk -> (Browse to the area and install it this way).

If that fails, browse VIA the windows explorer and run whatever setup.exe program they have.

If that fails, you downloaded a driver that is not made for your device. You’ll have to contact the manufacturer of your device and have them supply you with a working driver.

What should the driver file be? An .exe?

When I get to the "Have Disk" part, it is looking for a .inf.

I mentioned three things. If there isn't an *.inf file in the folder or any of the subfolders, then that option won't work. Try the second one. That would be to look into the folder, using Windows Explorer, for some type of setup.exe file to run.

If that fails, there's nothing to do but the third option to contact the manufacturer or place where you bought it for the appropriate drivers.

By the way, what happened to the original driver's disk that initially came with it?

Never came with a disk of any sort, I'll probably be making a trip to Circuit City tomorrow. I was in the air of the whole "USB adapter" thing.
