Hey guys,

I've been having this problem with vatsim/squawkbox where I connect to the server but then I get the pop up saying failed to connect to multiplayer via lobby or something, and that makes me not be able to see the other traffic on vatsim! So someone told me they had this same problem one time and the way to fix it is run the dxdiag tool. So I open it on VISTA and there is no button that will alow me to run the problem, I searched on every page! How do I run the dxdiag thing to make vatsim multiplayer work?

Thanks in advance!

I'm sure you'll get other suggestions. On the few occasions where I got this error with SB3, running fs9tool.exe from http://flightsim.apollo3.com resolved it.

I guess the only way is to run dxdiag? How do I run it with VISTA? I really want to fly on VATSIM again! Thanks guys!

There are three other things you might check. Again, for me it's a rare occasion to have a problem with SB3, and whatever it is, like most problems is some simple oversight that someone will probably point out.

In my occasion, FSX.exe is run as administrator. I haven't ever tested it in Vista without it. I don't know about the other SB3/Vista users how they run is.

Check and see if you get the same error if you try to connect from Flight Simulator's Multiplayer menu.

Verify that your Third Party Firewall/Antivirus program isn't blocking the connection.

1. I use fs9 and I run as an administrator

2. How do you do that?

3. How do I check that?

Thanks Larry for all the help, I really appreciate it

Eamonn,

To clarify, when Larry says to run as admin he doesnt mean with an admin account. He means to right click the shortcut, select compatability and tick "run as administrator" - this is not the same thing as using an account that has adminstrative rights.

2. From within FS select Squawkbox from the pull down menu under modules.

3. Each firewall/AV suite is different. You would need to let us know what you have first if we are to have any chance.

2. I do that too

3. I use the default VISTA firewall thing

Also you guys don't think I need the dxdiag, because some people have told me that I need to run that to fix it?

If those items fail there might be an occasion to check your router. How are you connected to the internet? Does the cable go directly from the modem they provide to your computer or does it go through a router?

If you're going through a router, Norm will give you the router settings.

I'm connected wireless to my dad's router downstairs. Also if you go to Squawkbox's site they have a frequenctly asked questions part, and if you look on the mulitplayer questions it says it has to do with directx and all that? So how do I download that?

Eamonn,

Im one of the mods over at the SB site. DirectX is from www.microsoft.com/directx albeit before you do that check by clicking start, run, dxdiag.

I just tested it and what happened was I connected to the sever fine, and then the loading multiplayer pop up took forever to load and after a couple minutes it dissapeared withouth the pop up saying that it failed to load. But then I look around and there is no traffic, I tried 4 different airports, including KLAX? What's the problem now? What do I do next?

You’re connected to the Internet via a router. As I mentioned, Norman will have the router setup for Squawkbox. I have always connected with Squawkbox with a direct connection.

While you wait for Router configurations you might test the installation of a loopback adapter which resolves many network problems.

Install the Microsoft Loopback adapter:

(Loopback adapter installation steps for Windows Vista)

Control Panel -> [select] Cl[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ic View -> [Click] Add

Hardware -> [Follow any prompts to confirm] -> [On the

Add Hardware Window tick] Install the hardware that I

manually select from a list -> [Click] Next -> [select]

Network adapters -> Next -> Microsoft -> Microsoft

Loopback Adapter -> Next -> Next -> Finish ->

(Loopback adapter configuration)

[From the Contol Panel Double Click] Network and Sharing

Center -> [Click] Manage network connections -> [Right

Click] Microsoft Loopback Adapter -> Properties ->

[select] TCP/IPv4 -> Properties -> [Tick] Use the

forllowing IP address -> [Enter for IP Address 172.22.1.1,

for Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0] -> OK -> Close

Sorry I'm not good with computers, so I don't understand so well. So do I just install that loopback adapter and that's it?

Sorry I'm not good with computers, so I don't understand so well. So do I just install that loopback adapter and that's it?

The problem you described is a connection issue. If you byp[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ed your router and connected directly to your ISP you probably wouldn't have that issue. It's possible that making some changes to your router might resolve the issue. As I mentioned the installation of the loopback adapter resolves many network issues.

You wouldn't have to be very computer savy to do the steps that are spelled out. If there's one that you attempt to do, and you don't see the option tell me which one you can't find.

The message showed both how to install the adapter and how to configure it. Installing it and not configuring it might be all that's necessary. However, you'll probably see an error of a mal-configured adapter if you don't configure it.

If you're wondering, it won't interfere with your already network configuration and stability. It will only resolve issues that you hadn't noticed before.

To test the recommendation, just do the steps in the message, then attempt to connect to VATSIM and see if it resolves your problem.

Again, there's a chance you might have to configure your router, but that's something that I mentioned will have to be referenced by Norman. It's separate than this fix that I'm suggesting.
