Leslie Jarrett 913775 Posted March 25, 2008 at 08:39 AM Posted March 25, 2008 at 08:39 AM Could I suggest an update to the website in the countries area. I think it would be a good idea for each country to have a list of the major airports and codes along with the FIR code as well for example Mauritius (naturally my choice as you will have gathered by now) you could have SSR International Airport FIMP Plain Corail FIMR Fir FIMM Thus when pilots etc have reference points for each country. Leslie Jarrett 913775 Posted March 25, 2008 at 11:57 AM Author Posted March 25, 2008 at 11:57 AM If a division is to promote itself and gain more exposure etc then it is vital to potrait the division as being progressive. In my opinion any news items/events that happened more than 6 months ago should be purged so that the website concentrates on being for the presnet and the future. Another comment I would like to make is that in terms of quality and layout some of the regional divisions in VATAME have a far better web-site than the group one of VATAME. This gives a slighty bad impression that at the centre of VATAME there is nothing but a core and all the activity and control is by the divisions. Ilan Jonas 860311 Posted March 25, 2008 at 06:13 PM Posted March 25, 2008 at 06:13 PM Guys, the regional website is not a substitute for the Divisional or vACC websites. The info in the regional website is of general purpose and should not actually contain too much unfo about active areas (except a link to the respected vACC/division website). Having said that, we should update the links to the new websites we have now Keep on the great work friends! Leslie Jarrett 913775 Posted March 25, 2008 at 08:56 PM Author Posted March 25, 2008 at 08:56 PM Before this thread gets out of control can we think about the original question in that it would be nice to complete the information for each country. I agree the vatame general site is a holding point or index for the active divisions in Vatame.

That's a very good suggestion! At the moment, most information such as this can be obtained from individual vACC websites. However, in the future, VATAME will have to refine its website a bit to get things more up to date and progressive. This will definitely be a feature that will be added at some point! For now, these are some helpful websites: http://www.arabianva.com/vatme - VATSIM Middle East Division Website, with vaCC links to: Bahrain / Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, UAE, Iran http://vateg.egyptair-va.com/ - VATSIM Egypt vACC Website http://www.simmiles.com/VRC/index.php - VATSIM DRC (Congo) vACC Website http://www.simmiles.com/VRC/index.php - VATSIM South Africa Division Website http://www.vatil.org/vatil/index.php - VATSIM Israel Division Website Hope this helps, even if its only temporary. Leslie Jarrett 913775 Posted March 26, 2008 at 09:15 AM Author Posted March 26, 2008 at 09:15 AM Perhaps looking at the web-site one could have a good improvement with little work. (1) have a divisions selection tab with the name of each division on it , then have a brief description of that division on a seperate page. With a click button for the division. (2) For each division page perhaps have a tab with a list of the vacc's operational in that division which again are linked to the vacc's home page. That way from VATAME you have easy to navigate links to any sub-part of VATAME from top down to bottom. This has a distinct advantage as when new divisions are created or new VACC's added a small edit to the code will add the new parts into the main directory. Rather than an array of different links we can keep the thing standard. One other comment is that it might be good to develop a standard web template that each division /vacc should follow i.e. the same place where sector files etc can be downloaded should be called ATC Resources. Obviously it probably needs somebody with some time and commitment to re-vamp and build such a website and model template etc. perhaps this is what is stopping this type of change from happening is that not enough time is available to this. This is a pity as VATAME is one area of VATSIM than can grow substantially in the future unlike the UK where they very much have everything covered and co only enhance when real world events i.e. T5 at Heathrow happen. Leslie Jarrett 913775 Posted March 28, 2008 at 09:38 AM Author Posted March 28, 2008 at 09:38 AM It may seem an obvious thing to many but if you look at the VATSIM structure as shown below (Wiki article) "VATSIM is divided into seven regions (Africa/Middle East, Asia, Central America/Mexico/Caribbean, Europe, North America, Oceania and South America), which are further subdivided into country-specific divisions. The divisions themselves are divided into Flight Information Regions (FIRs), Virtual Area Control Centers (vACCs) and Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCCs)." Then should the website's be built around this to form a pyramid of information and website navigations. at the top level is VATAME web-site which contains all regional level information. below this are the divisions i.e. Middle East , South Africa etc. under each division there should be several FIRS for each FIR there will be one or more Vacc's for each Vacc there may be one or more ARTCC's -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In theory to find my beloved Mauritius I should be able to navigate VATSIM websites as follows -: VATSIM -----------> Africa & Middle East Region (VATAME) (REGION) VATAME -----------> VATIOD - Indian ocean Division (DIVISION) VATIOD -----------> FIMR - Mauritius FIR (FIR) FIMR --------------> MAURITIUS (VACC) MAURITIUS -------> FIMP SSR International Airport (ARTCC) MAURITIUS -------> FIMR PLaine Corail Rodrigues (ARTCC) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps we should have a standard that VATAME has for the web-sites below the main VATAME one that has tabbed links/navigation to all the sub-components in such a way that the VATSIM structure is prevalent throughout. It does not seem that way on tthe main VATAME site where there is a random collection of links to the divisions and or VACC sites. I would like to offer some of my spare time to revamp the main web-site of VATAME to have the navigation etc. However as I said before I have great rerspect for all the work that has gone into the website before and as such my comments are not a criticism of that work. I can help with the web-site and the above is only a suggestion to make things look easier to follow and more important easier to expand in the future when new divisions vacc's are up and running. I would therefore like to ask for permission to prototype a new website framework and publish it on-line for review. {Note the website will contain a disclaimer on the HOME page that this is only a prototype and you should refer to the proper VATAME page.
