Kuo Evan Teddy 934905 Posted May 22, 2008 at 03:45 AM Posted May 22, 2008 at 03:45 AM When flying VFR are we suppose to readback on VATSIM? In real world we just acknowledge by callsign. Also, on VATSIM do we use full call sign all the time or do we just use the last 4 letters? (e.g. C-GSCO or GSCO?) In real we use GSCO usually. Thank you for the help for this VATSIM new comer. Daniel Gustin 940540 Posted May 22, 2008 at 08:23 PM Posted May 22, 2008 at 08:23 PM Do what you would do in real life. Readback sqwk codes, atc instructions and stuff like that, the norm. Yanis Sauve Posted November 26, 2008 at 06:06 PM Posted November 26, 2008 at 06:06 PM If I may add to the discussion... Kuo is right, VFR aircrafts don't have to readback everything to ATC, just acknowledging is enough. *BUT* any instruction which is a restriction is a mandatory readback, things like "Hold short of runway XX", "No higher/lower than XXXX feet", "XXXX feet or higher/lower". Usually when ATC gives such an instruction, it's to [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ure separation from other aircraft. Your readback tells us you understood the restriction and that you will respect it. Hope this helps Yanis "Taking off is a choice... Landing is a necessity..." -Unknown ---
Ian Elchitz 810151 Posted November 27, 2008 at 07:26 PM Posted November 27, 2008 at 07:26 PM No difference between VFR or IFR, you are to read back all [snip] The elements to be read back are the same though. This is not correct. In the case of a VFR flight (as per CAR 602.31), read back to the appropriate air traffic control unit the text of any air traffic control clearance received, when so requested by the air traffic control unit. For example, a landing clearance is generally acknowledged by reading back your callsign. There are of course exceptions to every scenario, for example if issued a landing clearance with a hold short instruction, one would read it back for the sake of clarity.
