Rasmus Eriksen 1062998 Posted June 8, 2008 at 05:43 PM Posted June 8, 2008 at 05:43 PM Hello VATSIM'ers! I'm new on VATSIM, but I got some experience with the PMDG/NG 737-800/900, so i hope this will do it easyer for me to understand if someone want to answer this question. My question is - When I have programmed the FMC with the route and I have decended to my destination. If now, the ATC tells me to fly against a VOR, which isn't programmed on my flightplan and therefore aren't on my FMC route, what do I do? Once I tried to program the VOR in the "legs" on the FMC, but the FMC couldn't find the VOR. Then, what am I supposed to do? And what can I do? I also have some more general questiones if you're able to answer, please. What does "vector" mean? - Is it correct that it's when you get navigated by the ATC. When they tell you which hdg you should fly? Another question - When you are asking for IFR clearence you say "with information oscar/lima/alpha...etc" - what does that mean? My last question - When I have SID/STARS in my FMC, is it still nesesarry to print them out? (And do anyone know where I can download updated SID/STARS to my (PMDG/NG) FMC? I hope somebody want to help me, cause I would like to be fully prepared for my first flight in the world of VATSIM. Rasmus Eriksen (:
Lennart Vedin Posted June 8, 2008 at 09:49 PM Posted June 8, 2008 at 09:49 PM My question is - When I have programmed the FMC with the route and I have decended to my destination. ATC does not likely tell you to fly a VOR not in your flightplan. But if not in flightplan it should be in the approach chart. If it happen, there are some ways to handle this in the FMC such as insert in to the current route. However I should enter the VOR as a new "FIX" in the FMC and it will appear in the NAV display and I simply fly by set AP-heading to the FIX. If the VOR can't be found in the FMC as "not in database", you may not have update the AIRAC database or you may have misunderstand the VOR name. Note that VOR may be told as one long name as in chart, or as typical three letters e.g. Alfa-Romeo-Sierra. The FMC use the short name if long and short name exist. Chart should show both long and short name. I also have some more general questiones if you're able to answer, please. What does "vector" mean? - Is it correct that it's when you get navigated by the ATC. When they tell you which hdg you should fly? Vector mean the ATC give you heading and altitud to fly. Another question - When you are asking for IFR clearence you say "with information oscar/lima/alpha...etc" - what does that mean? You only say with information alpha.. if you have got the ATIS information alpha. ATIS information may be given at VATSIM by voice at a specific radio-frequency with information such as wind, active runway air pressure etc. , the information is labeled as alpha... . If something change in ATIS information, ATC must re-lable to beta.. etc. Then ATC know that the pilot have correct information and ATC does not neccessary need to repeat any of those information to you. My last question - When I have SID/STARS in my FMC, is it still nesesarry to print them out? (And do anyone know where I can download updated SID/STARS to my (PMDG/NG) FMC? 1. It is recommended to use chart (print or on screen no matter), since it have some written instructions and information etc in the charts, this data you do not have in the FMC. 2. I update at http://www.navdata.at all SID/STAR are free user uploads, while AIRAC are payware. The last free AIRAC is dated cycle 0608. Addition: Notice that you have e.g. departure/approach (=SID/STAR) and ground -charts, at each local VATSIM organization. See VATSIM right side regions and search to the local place. You also have good acceptable flightplans to enter into your FMC, and free addon sceneries at the VATSIM local sites. / Lennart Vedin /
