Martin Loxbo Posted May 23, 2005 at 11:33 PM Posted May 23, 2005 at 11:33 PM VATSIM Event Östersund/Frösön airport (OSD/ESPC) will be staffed at least between 1600 and 2100 UTC on Tuesday 24 May. If the event is successful, we will open up the airport once again the next evening. Background A high level NATO and Partnership for Peace (PFP) meeting will be held in Åre, Sweden 24-25 May. Meeting delegates from over forty countries will arrive by air to Östersund/Frösön airport (OSD/ESPC). To meet the demands at the airport, a separate Ground frequency has been set up, as well as a temporary IFR holding. To protect the meeting, the village of Åre is surrounded by a Restricted Area and an Air Surveillance area. ESPC is home to the F4 Wing of the Swedish Air Force. The airport has scheduled jet traffic to Stockholm/Arlanda (ESSA) as well as connections to Umeå (ESNU) and Luleå/Kallax (ESPA). The scenery around Östersund and Åre is beautiful and perfect for VFR flying. If you get tired of ESPC you can point the nose to nearby Optand (ESNM), which is a military airfield, but frequently used for private flying. Event details Depending on traffic, ESPC will be staffed with up to three controllers, plus Stockholm Control.
