Ben Bigham 1073354 Posted August 25, 2008 at 05:59 AM Posted August 25, 2008 at 05:59 AM Hi, well...their not really sound problems. Anyways, I just decided to try out vatsim, but I get a strange error message, stating that it has failed to initialize sound, the help page, like usual, dosen't actually offer any solutions...so I was hoping to come to you guys...help? *by not offering solutions, they just say, here's a problem...but not really how to fix it...I'm not that computer savvy, and I"m quite suprised I was able to actually connect...I saw planes moving around, but there was no ATC chatter... I don't know what soundcard I have, nor do I know how to update one either.:\ EDIT: I just ran a dxdiag, and it appears I have Direct X 10 installed....O_o...which I find odd as I didn't install...either way, does this effect this problem, and how would I go about downgrading back to Direct X 9? Aaron Danks 1071982 Posted August 25, 2008 at 08:11 AM Posted August 25, 2008 at 08:11 AM whatever the problem, it won't require a downgrade to DX9. If you are using FSInn, I had some problems with other applications locking the sound card driver, try closing all the applications you aren't using before flight sim. Failing that, double check the sound settings in FSFDT control panel (it is in your status bar when FSInn is running) and ensure the right sound card is selected. If you are still having problems you can try out the Squawkbox 4 beta, which I switched to yesterday and installs very smoothly.

You might consider allowing him to identify some elements of the install before confusing the issue by trying to work with more than one pilot client at a time. -- L. James -- L. D. Since he is a new user, it might appear that you're suggesting that he has installed the wrong pilot client, or installed something that doesn't work. New users often expect the veterans to give them the official direction. In this case, he has already made one of the official choices that was well evaluated by VATSIM's officials before making it an official option. -- L. James -- L. D. Ben Bigham 1073354 Posted August 25, 2008 at 03:54 PM Author Posted August 25, 2008 at 03:54 PM I installed Squawkbox, though I am unsure which version I actually did install, either 3, or 4. Sorry about the confusion, I should have mentioned that.
Larry James 901346 Posted August 25, 2008 at 05:19 PM Posted August 25, 2008 at 05:19 PM I installed Squawkbox, though I am unsure which version I actually did install, either 3, or 4. Sorry about the confusion, I should have mentioned that. It will help if we knew which OS and Flight Simulator version you're running. Since you mentioned DX10, most likely you're running Vista. But any information about your system will help. Since SB4 works with all versions of Flight Simulator, you might consider, as mentioned by the other user, installing that. It's recommended that you perform an uninstall when changing versions. -- L. James -- L. D.
