Richard Ruminski Posted September 19, 2008 at 12:42 AM Posted September 19, 2008 at 12:42 AM MITRE/CAASD to host fourth event at KATL! On Saturday, September 27, 2008, MITRE/CAASD will host its fourth event on the VATSIM network from 8-11 PM EDT (0000Z-0300Z). The event will take place at Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport (KATL) and will focus on a sophisticated procedure known as the Continuous Descent Arrival (CDA). This procedure is currently being tested by real-world pilots and controllers in Atlanta. CDAs are a new breed of Standard Terminal Arrival (STAR) that allow aircraft to calculate an optimized top of descent in order to eliminate level flight and minimize fuel burn while descending. An in-depth briefing including more information about CDAs and comprehensive pilot/controller training material can be found at http://www.mitrecaasd.org/vatsim It is important that pilots flying in this event read all of the training material carefully and have a thorough understanding of their responsibilities. As with all CAASD hosted events, prizes will be awarded to several participants, so grab your favorite FMS and join us in the skies above KATL for this exciting new event! Just want to clarify the time on this event since this always seems to be an issue. The event is SATURDAY NIGHT (SUNDAY MORNING IN ZULU time) from 8-11 PM EDT (0000-03000 Z). I really wish EDT was UTC+4 instead of UTC-4. It would really simplify things -Rob
