James Lee 1039029 Posted October 17, 2008 at 07:22 AM Posted October 17, 2008 at 07:22 AM Got a quick question about the SEBBY4 departure. I understand this SID has a note on the chart which states "This departure is to be used only when [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned by ATC", however I've noticed that most real-world Europe-bound departures (DLH, BAW, SQC etc) seem to be using this SID when departing via Daggett. This has been showing on Flightaware at a very early stage (ie. up to 24 hours before departure, presumably well before Clearance Delivery). Could someone pls explain the usage of this SID - is it for those that cannot meet the requiements of LOOP4/LAXX5, and how it is [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned? Im pretty sure it shows up when the flight plan is filed. VATSIM Supervisor
Andrew Doubleday Posted October 18, 2008 at 03:43 PM Posted October 18, 2008 at 03:43 PM Possibly because it was [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned by ATC when flightaware picked it up? Maybe dispatch for the airline(s) in question did not file valid routing with local ATC SOP, hence the reason they were re-[Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned (or simply [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned) that SID. -AJ Andrew James Doubleday | Twitch Stream: Ground_Point_Niner University of North Dakota | FAA Air Traffic Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI) Graduate
Bryan Wollenberg 810243 Posted October 19, 2008 at 09:02 AM Posted October 19, 2008 at 09:02 AM I have no idea in what part of the process Flightaware gets its data. The SEBBY4 is mainly used for heavy aircraft that can't make the climb restrictions of the LAXX5. You'll see the SEBBY getting [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned to some cargo flights, and some of the European flights. The LAXX5 calls for SLI at or above 14,000, while the SEBBY is at or above 10. Nate Johns Posted October 19, 2008 at 11:25 AM Posted October 19, 2008 at 11:25 AM If my last flight experience is any indication, I think FlightAware gets flight plan information from whatever is in the FAA computer's database before the flight departs and becomes active. Reason I say this is the last flight I took, IAD-ABQ, we were given 3 separate re-routes. One at the gate and two while sitting in the run up box out near 1C. Being the nerd I am, I was listening to Ch 9 and copying our clearances just because. I was convinced our route was gonna be all screwed up in FlightAware when we got home because I thought they only knew about the initially filed flight plan. However, lo and behold, the last route clearance we were given was what showed up. Compare to one mid-shift middle of last year where I was feeling bold and cleared a transcon red-eye from EWM (El Paso, TX area) direct JFK. The radar track was a beautiful arc to JFK of course, but the otherwise extensive flight plan wasn't changed at all despite having plenty of fixes and airways between West Texas and NYC. ~Nate Nate Johns "All things are difficult before they are easy." - Dr. Thomas Fuller, Gnomologia, 1732
