Israel is a small state with special political situation and defense needs. It has a small crowded airspace, shared by both military and civilian aviation. Due to that, Israel has special flight rules and regulations. C.V.F.R flight rules. All domestic VFR flights are cl[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ified as C.V.F.R – Controlled View Flight Rules which means: All VFR aircrafts must establish and maintain radio contact with ATC as long as they are airborne. All VFR aircrafts must have a transponder with mode C on board. CVFR Routs. In Israel you may fly VFR along predefined routs only. In ISRAEL CVFR map one may find route lines with different colors and line types: Green continuous line: A route for both civilian and military traffic. Green dashed line: route for both civilian and military traffic, by special ATC clearance only. Blue continuous line: A route for military traffic only. Civilian aircraft may fly on such route only if the pilot got special ATC clearance. Blue dashed line: route for both civilian and military traffic, by special ATC clearance only. Altitudes: Most of the routs are bi- directional and has an [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned altitude for each direction. Altitude separation between inbound and outbound traffic is typically 500 feet. [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned altitudes are marked as yellow filled rectangles with arrow pointing the [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned altitude direction. The [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned altitude is marked in the rectangle. Directions: In most routs directions are defined by magnetic course. The magnetic course for each airway is marked near the start point of each leg. Some routs are defined by roads or other visual references that should be followed along the airway. In these cases there is no defined magnetic course for the airway. Distances. Distances between waypoints are marked with black bold number, near the route line. Speed Restrictions. Maximum allowed airspeed for CVFR routs in ISRAEL is 180 knots, indicated air speed. Reporting Waypoints. Along CVFR routs one may find reporting waypoints marked as yellow or black filled triangles. Black filled triangle means- mandatory reporting waypoint. Yellow filled triangles means - on request reporting waypoint. One should report ATC overflying a yellow waypoint only if he was asked by ATC to do. When reporting waypoint overflying to ATC, the radio m[Mod - Happy Thoughts]age will include: waypoint name. altitude. next waypoint. Waypoints are indentified by visual references on the ground such as roads, railroads, rivers, lakes, interchanges, cities small settlements and villages etc. Plan your flight and do your preflight carefully. Use the map and find visual references around waypoints. These visual references will help you to identify waypoints along the route in flight. Altitude change waypoints. An altitude change is required when flying along routs with different [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned altitudes. When ATC service is online, aircrafts may start climb or descend to the new [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned altitude by ATC clearance only. If the voice channel is busy or if there is no ATC service online, aircraft must initiate climb/descend when crossing the first waypoint of the route segment that has a different [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned altitude. ATC Frequency Switching Waypoints. ATC coverage for CVFR flights in ISRAEL is based on airports towers with CTR region boundaries and general air space control centers dedicated for VFR traffic only. One exception is Ben Gurion airport . It has also approach control for IFR flights and TMA control for VFR flights that cross the airport Terminal area. (In VATSIM TMA control is INACTIVE). Israel CVFR ATC center includes: North sector: PLUTO _CTR. On freq. 127.10 MHz South sector: HAGAV_CTR on freq. 124.50 MHz In VATSIM virtual ATC net, if there is no PLUTO or HAGAV controller online, TEL-AVIV control (LLLL_CTR) will be the regional ATC service. If neither LLLL_CTR is online, use Unicom (on 122.80 MHz) for ATC reporting. ATC Frequency change waypoints are [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned with a magenta line or arrow. The line or arrow is attached to the Frequency change waypoints. The arrow points towards the new ATC region with the new frequency. Joining /departing to/from airport's C.T.R-s. Joining or departing from a CTR is only via predefined Waypoints and altitudes. In each Airport there are some exit/enter waypoints typically one waypoint for each general direction. For example: from Haifa airport towards the south you will exit the CTR via Darom at 1000 feet. North-east bound traffic will leave Haifa CTR via Gil'am junction at 1500 feet. ALL enter/exit waypoints are detailed in the Domestic AIP publications. Usually, CTR entering traffics will be directed to join traffic pattern before landing. In some cases one may be directed to final approach of a runway. Departing aircraft will be directed to the exit waypoint at the [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned altitude – before take off. Example: 4X – CGX is a Cessna 172 departing from Hertzlia airport to Haifa. The take off clearance will be as follows: 4X-CGX: "4X-CGX is ready for take off" Hertzlia tower: "4X-CGX after take off – BATZRA 800', cleared for take off". 4X – CGX (read-back): "BATZRA 800', cleared for take off, 4X-CGK" Arriving aircraft will be directed to one of the traffic pattern legs at a desired altitude. First radio m[Mod - Happy Thoughts]age from tower to arriving aircraft contains four types of data: Runway in use. Leg to join in traffic pattern. Initial altitude when joining traffic pattern. Altimeter setting. Example: 4X-CGX is entering Haifa CTR from south for landing: 4X-CGX: "Haifa tower Shalom, 4X-CGX at DAROM 1500' for landing." Haifa Tower: "4X-CGX shalom runway in use is 34, Join right downwind at 800' altimeter 3010" 4X –CGX (read-back): " Runway 34, will join right downwind 800, altimeter 3010, 4GX". Transition from IFR route to CVFR route. An aircraft flying on ATS route with IFR flight rules may land at airport that is not cl[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ified as IFR capabilities airfield – only if weather conditions at the airport are VMC. The pilot may switch from IFR route to CVFR route only where the two routs are aligned or closely aligned vertically. The pilot will declare cancelation of IFR flight plan and will be instructed by ATC to descend to the [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned CVFR route altitude and will be asked to report next waypoint. Filling a flight plan - CVFR. Filling a flight plan in Squawkbox/Fsinn for CVFR flight in ISRAEL: Since there is no name for each route, in route description pilots should list all waypoints on their planned routes. Altitude: in the altitude fill in the highest [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned altitude in your planned route. Example: flight plan from Haifa (LLHA) to Rosh Pina (LLIB): Departure: LLHA Destination: LLIB Flight rule: VFR Route description: GILAM, SEGEV, TZALMON, KAREI-DESHE. Altitude: 2500 feet. Clearance delivery click Clearance delivary will be issued by the tower usually, or by higher stage ATC station that is online. In first radio contact please mention the phrase "low altitudes" so that the controller will know that you intend to fly CVFR flight. Example: 4X-CGX: "Haifa tower, 4X-CGX shalom request clearance to ROSH PINA, low altitudes" HAIFA TOWER: "4GX cleared to ROSH PINA as filled, RWY in use 34 SQUAWK 5103" Read-back, Etc.
