Owen Phillips 933368 Posted June 18, 2005 at 10:00 PM Posted June 18, 2005 at 10:00 PM I am new to the Vatsim network and have everything set up and getting ready to make my first flight. I have been observing the transmittions on the network and was wondering about something. I live in an area, Jax where I never seem to see any controller on-line for that area. I was wondering if that is common in some parts of the country. My real question is: If I don't see any local controllers online but do see controller say from the Miami area, can I request clearence from the Miami Del even though I would not be on their Radar screen? Or should I begin the flight on Unicom 122.8 and wait until I reach someones radar screen that is on-line? Thanks for any advice
Norman Blackburn Posted June 18, 2005 at 10:03 PM Posted June 18, 2005 at 10:03 PM Hi Owen, and welcome to VATSIM. Simply indicate your intentions on Unicom 122.80. Generally a controller will contact you if you are in / approaching their airspace. As you become more experienced then you will know where they are and be prepared. Owen Phillips 933368 Posted June 18, 2005 at 10:05 PM Author Posted June 18, 2005 at 10:05 PM Thanks for the info Norman. I was thinking that was the case since if not within a controller's Radar screen they would not be able to help.
