FNO 2009 is coming!

What's new about FNO in 2009?

-Friday Night International

-Preferred Routing

-VA Sponsorship

-Nothing Else

Friday Night International

-From the recent Events surveys that have gone out, many pilots are interested in taking VATUSA events beyond the borders of the US. Starting in January, the first Friday of each month will be reserved to host Friday Night International (FNI). A relatively close international destination will be featured on that night and operations will remain the same as any FNO. For those of you who may be a bit apprehensive about flying out of US airspace, links to charts and information on flying in the airspace of the featured airport will be provided on the Friday Night Ops page on the VATUSA website. Organizations involved in this inter division event include VATCAN, VATMEX, VATSUR, and VATCAR. Toronto, Ontario, Canada will be the first FNI destination.

Preferred Routing

-To help involve other ARTCCs in FNO each we, FNO will be implementing a Preferred Routing system. Each week, there will be four routes available from varying departure cities across the US. There will always be a short hop route, two medium range routes, and one long range flight (4+hrs). As a pilot, you have the option of flying to the FNO destination from these airports. What is the advantage of flying out of these destination airports?

--Guaranteed ATC at the departure airport and arrival airport

--Better sequencing due to ATC resulting in less delays

--A departure window so that you can arrive at the FNO destination during peak times

VA Sponsorship

-In an attempt to advertize FNO to more pilots, VATUSA will be seeking Virtual Airlines to sponsor FNO. As a dedicated sponsor of FNO, these airlines will be asked to advertize FNO on their webpage and encourage their pilots to participate. In exchange, the sponsoring VAs will displayed on the FNO link on the VATUSA main page.

Nothing Else

In an attempt not to change the current operation of FNO, Friday Night International, Preferred Routing, and VA Sponsorship will be the only differences in FNO in 2009.

I encourage you all to visit the FNO page http://www.vatusa.net/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=PN_Content&file=index&req=visit&artid=68 and view the upcoming FNO events in 2009. If you have any questions regarding FNO, please email me at [email protected]

We hope to see you all flying FNO in 2009. Thank you for your continued support of VATUSA's most popular weekly event.
