Norman Blackburn Posted July 5, 2005 at 10:33 AM Posted July 5, 2005 at 10:33 AM Over the past few months a group of pilots have been slowly making their way around the globe. Weekender is made of a bunch of like minded pilots who want to fly into some of the more challenging airports around the globe each and every Sunday. We have had fantastic ATC on a couple of occ[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ions whilst in the AME region which adds to our realism. This Sunday sees us depart HDAM Djibouti at 1900z for what is probably my favourite field, OMDB Dubai. If you fancy the challenge of controlling 10 or 12 pilots then we would love to see you this Sunday, 10th July. Further legs in AME are: * 17th July OMDB Dubai - HEGN Egypt * 24th July HEGN Egypt - LLBG Ben Gurion * 31st July LLBG Ben Gurion - LTAI Antalya All flights depart @ 1900z Norman

Ilan Jonas 860311 Posted July 7, 2005 at 05:22 PM Posted July 7, 2005 at 05:22 PM Norman hello, You will probably be the first pilots to enjoy the experimental gulf_fss center services. This is something we are trying for the first time - a station covering the whole Gulf area. We'll be in touch! Alex Long Posted July 7, 2005 at 06:42 PM Posted July 7, 2005 at 06:42 PM Norman, not sure if your flight has a route, but I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]embled this route which looks like a faily decent routing into Dubai... PARIM G617 SAA A419 MIADA MIADA1(V/T) Most likely you can look for me to be on GULF_FSS and able to offer services for nearly all of your flight... Florian Harms Posted July 15, 2005 at 03:16 PM Posted July 15, 2005 at 03:16 PM Sure. it will be a star flyin inbound OMDB on sunday 17th, landing will start at 1700utc. Normally also the outbounds will be active at that time, but they will not be in that flyin rules. (a flyin always get some more pilots, because there is "action" at that airport) An Info-website is avaible here: http://flyin.org/dubai.html OF COURSE this is an open flyin, also non-BAV-pilots are mostly welcome to join the show. just book and fly. I hope this clears it a bit up. Thanks for manning ATC. Dubai is a veery nice destination (as also the other airports in that area). Ilan Jonas 860311 Posted July 16, 2005 at 04:32 PM Posted July 16, 2005 at 04:32 PM Hi Flo and all - first of all, we will be there for you. Anyone who is avail for ATC, please contact me! Ali - Norman's group flyin is heading for Egypt, Leaving Dubai. The speedbirds are entering Dubai. So Norman should be able to answer about estimated time for HECC. Flo - the correct departure from LLBG is DEENA1 and not SOLIN SID. Guys, It will be a departures + arrivals flyin, so expect some delays if it goes nasty! (Fuel's on me ). Norman Blackburn Posted July 17, 2005 at 10:45 PM Author Posted July 17, 2005 at 10:45 PM Thanks to Ilan and his team for pulling out all the stops, not only for the Speedbirds but for us. I have a feeling that this area has not seen those levels of traffic before which makes it so much better. A few screenshots: Lined up at Dubai with an aircraft on finals to the wrong runway despite the tower calling him many times. Some screenshots of the airspace not seen covered for some time! Whilst service was excellent thoughout, a special mention must go to Opher's service who we all commented on was exceptional. We thoroughly enjoed the evening and look forward to our departure next Sunday, 1900z from HEGN - LLBG. Norman
Ilan Jonas 860311 Posted July 18, 2005 at 07:11 AM Posted July 18, 2005 at 07:11 AM Been a pleasure for me guys. Vatsim never saw the Middle East as it did yesterday! We had, at different times, Dubai Tower and Arrival, Emirates Center, Emirates Radar, Gulf_FSS, Bahrain Center, Jeddah control, Cairo center and Hurgada Approach. Full ATC from Dubai to Egypt! I had some problems with my voice, and some major distructions which led me sometimes to speaking nonsense, and I appologize for that For example, my beer can exploded on me (what do you expect from a beer named "Murphy's" hehe). Well, at least we killed none of you guys! Personal thanks to my fellow controllers "at order of appearance": 1. Shady Abo Ahmad, VATAME2 for holding Dubai approach, having to run and coming back right on time to take Cairo center. 2. Alex long for holding Gulf_fss, losing internet connection and coming back to watch Bahrain. 3. Ran Finkels for taking over Dubai Tower when needed - it wasn't planned and Ran saved the day for us in Dubai! 4. Opher Ben Perets - Opher gave us an offer we can't refuse : control at Saudi Arabia, on the gate to Egypt! it wasn't planned also, and was Opher's idea and initiative! 5. Claude Bernard who took over Hurgada approach Giving the night's grand finale. Also, special thnaks to Mr. Ton Out for making the sector files needed in such a short notice, and to Alex Long for his work in this field and for sharing his knowledge on local procedures. See you next week guys, and Flo, feel free to join again next week as well! Florian Harms Posted July 18, 2005 at 08:54 AM Posted July 18, 2005 at 08:54 AM Hehe, that was a nice small calm and easy event. Great fun. (was hoping to do it in the PMDG744, but...) Folks, another nice event was made possible by you. we have had approx. 20 flyin-related flights, which is not a bad number at all, if we see the vacation time. And it was a pleasure to see Dubai as active as yesterday. This was my 2nd flyin in VATAME region. It surely won't be the last one. On behalf of Speedbird Online, its my pleasure to thank you all for making this event possible.
