No ATC in region

I'm a newbe, just to mention because of this maybe strange question: Can anybody tell me how I should communicate with an ATC if no ATC is available in the region I would like to fly? There are several planes around but no ATC.

You would switch to Unicom 122.800 and announce your intentions via text remembering that Unicom is not a manned position so dont expect a reply

No. Your announcements are for traffic separation.
