A few X-Plane qns

Hi...to echo another threads sentiments...this sim rocks. I can't believe I had it for 6 mos and never bothered to really give it a run. Anyways...with all those pics Mr. Keith was posting, I totally decided to take the plunge and I finally was able to finish a successful flight. And as many have said, first flight on VATSIM was in a Concorde (well first flight on X-Plane)...I will soon graduate to GA

I did have some challenges flying the plane but still given that this is the most flown route by me, I was pretty much able to make it. But here are a few things that I had a problem with.

The FMC...I had it programmed for all waypoints (PORTE3.AVE.SADDE6) but could not get the acft to follow it. I did not know what button to use for getting the A/P to follow the path.

The ND shows TRK and hence the HDG is always off...could not guess as I did not know how to adjust it. Maybe there is a setting to show hdg in ND instead of TRK or maybe it was staring at me and I was blind as usual.

How do I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ign a button to the PTT on the joystick? It automatically took button 23 which I am yet to find which one it is on my joystick and worse, it kept the voice channel open so had to disconnect it.

All acft turn to the right (and I tried two different joysticks...Saitek X52 and Logitech xtreme3DPro) why does that happen? I know helos need a left twist (or right) to hold steady but why does the fixed wing do this..I did calibrate my joysticks before the flight, but still had the problem.

And last...during final, NAV1 did not show DME...from the screen shot below u can see it is showing (this is from a replay). Luckily ceiling cleared out at 500 or so feet and I was able to see the rwy, although the A/P brought me close enuf.

If these qns have been asked already, I apologize for asking again!! Adding a screenshot so the above qns make sense:

Appreciate the answers as always!!

PS. I run X-Plane 9.00 on a 22" MAC (10.5.3)

You got the Flight Director on but you forgot to change your NAV source to GPS

with regards to the joystick.. I have the X52 Pro and before I use the sim I generally have to recalibrate the rudder... doesn't automatically detect the range or something...

You know, I actually tried it. I thought that was it, but it still did not track, not sure if I had some wrong combination. With NAV set to GPS, shud LOC be engaged or what else should be engaged?

Set the source to GPS then engage the LOC feature. Make sure the FMC has stepped forward otherwise the route may have disconned. Why does it show you over SADDE but next waypoint KSFO?

Ah ha...that would certainly explain it..LOC was not engaged. As for the FMC showing the wrong waypoint, the screen shot was from a replay. The FMC did not load the plan so I loaded it only then just b4 taking the screenshot

Typical sequence is:

- Set Nav source to GPS.

- Hit the "execute" button (looks like D with an arrow through it - top right) on the FMS to be sure the flight track is updated to be from your current position

- Engage Loc on the autopilot

Hi Wade,

thx for the answer. I did fail to see that the FS "NAV" button on default acft is the same as the LOC button here (sorry...payware FMC tins ). Will try that today!!

Well can't say why it's going to the right since it should be pulling left from slipstream and torque factors unless the props turn the other direction.

I see the DME's are working from your screenshot there but it's possible that that runway doesn't have a DME [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ociated to it. I haven't looked. Or it wasn't put in for the runway. (ex. KMIA from stock point of view for runway 30. It's a LOC/DME approach and it's not at all in xplane stock wise. I had to put it in for both the LOC and DME)

Not all runways have a DME [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ociated with it.

I am using Ted's Scenery for KLAX and a whole bunch of other places. I also have the apt.dat update from ...oh I forget the site...(darn favs). Yet it didn't capture that day. The screenshot which was from a replay surprising is showing the DME . I might have to check next time.

Surely P Factor and Prop wash / torque have no effect on Concorde - it's got 4 turbo Jet engines with reheat. You'll need to look at stuff like calibration of joystick and the in game settings.

I think so too...when I used it with another joystick the effect was less noticeable...but since I had rudder pedals etc on that m/c, I didn't pay attn, but I will check for sure. Tks for tip.
