Stephen Chase 935017 Posted July 14, 2005 at 06:18 AM Posted July 14, 2005 at 06:18 AM I may be the only person attempting to fly/observe on VATSIM using the crusty but quaint old FS98. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? I saw a couple of discussion threads where someone apparently tried about a year ago but I'm not sure what happened. Will any versions of SB, etc work? Juha Hepokangas 813997 Posted August 9, 2005 at 11:55 PM Posted August 9, 2005 at 11:55 PM To get some retro feelings and enjoy amazing frames per second, I recently made some flights with FS98 in Vatsim. You'll need Squawkbox version 2.3.4 (2.3.5 may be "too new" to work) and AVC works fine for voice communication. I'm not sure whether autotuning would work by using AVC Tuner, but you can always change the voice channel with Squawkbox "dot" commands. The last freeware FSUIPC version 2.975 will do nicely. You can download the old Squawkbox for example from the "competitors" site: http://www.ivao.org/data/files/software/squawkbox_all.zip Extract the zip archive and install version 2.1 first and then apply the included patches 2.2 and 2.3.4 over it. BTW. The fps counter in FS98 goes weird when displaying figures over 100...
Stephen Chase 935017 Posted August 13, 2005 at 07:37 PM Author Posted August 13, 2005 at 07:37 PM Thank you for that good information. I've downloaded all mentioned but got a little lost installing to the FS98 program. Still working on it. Computer guru coming next week and may be able to get me running. Thanks again - I'm one step closer to BECOMING TRAFFIC ON VATSIM! Squawk Box not wanting to work so far -- it's telling me there's a newer version.... Theodore Martin 898312 Posted November 3, 2005 at 07:17 PM Posted November 3, 2005 at 07:17 PM Yes, AVC Tuner will work with FS98. I used this with SB2.3 until 8 months ago when I finally upgraded to FS9. Ted
