Andy King-Magee 810722 Posted December 6, 2004 at 03:42 PM Posted December 6, 2004 at 03:42 PM Hi All, UKRoute AIRAC 0412 is now available for download 25/11/2004 to 23/12/2004 from http://www.virtual-pilot.co.uk What is UKRoute and why do I need it??When flying around the UK, contrary to popular belief there is some sort of order to all this traffic. The airway routes in the skies of the UK are controlled and mapped by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). To make flight planning easier and to make the control of IFR traffic a little more standardised it was decided that there needed to be STANDARD ROUTES defined when travelling from one place to another throughout the UK. AND SO WAS BORN-> THE UK STANDARD ROUTE DOcomeENT(SRD) This is an official docomeent that is referred to by all IFR pilots when flight planning through the UK. The docomeent is updated with every new AIRAC CYCLE ( 28days ). If you were to download this docomeent and print it out, it is about 1.8mb and is just short of 290 pages in length. It doesn't take a genius to work out this could turn out to be a considerable waste of money and paper if you were to keep current with the updates. Also planning your route with this docomeent can be a little bewildering especially if you're sat on the ground online battling to get your route fixed before your arrival airport controller closes. This is why I developed UKRoute. This is an electronic version of this very docomeent. Yes it is true that you could actually use this for real flight planning if you keep it updated as the data is "REAL WORLD" directly extracted from the SRD itself. However this is NOT what it's intention is and I don't want anyone using it as such . . . take this as my "warning get-out clause" ok?? DON'T DO IT!!! Graham Summer Sorry about the delay but I lost a CD that has the data creation program on it. Enjoy.
