Kevin Jarvis Posted April 12, 2009 at 02:32 AM Posted April 12, 2009 at 02:32 AM I'm new to the experience too. I was lucky enough to find someone who is walking me through the steps and it helps alot. If you belong to a VA or any kind of group chances are someone there is/has flown VATSIM. Andrew Lamarra 1104384 Posted April 16, 2009 at 07:54 PM Posted April 16, 2009 at 07:54 PM I recently signed up as well. I'm about 42 hours into my PPL lessons and hope this place will help me with my communications with ATC. Last week I did a night X-country flight over Philadelphia landing at Atlantic City in a DA20, it was so AWESOME! But my instructor had to help me communicate with ATC when we got to ACY, the controller sounded like she was having a bad day and was very moody, impatient & spoke fast. I recently got myself a CH yoke & rudder pedals and have a copy of FSX and X-Plane. Which do you guys recommend for beginners to flight sims? Well, I used to play a lot of flight sims when I was younger, but never anything as realistic as these. My first experience was the game F-15 Strike Eagle for Windows 95 using a 2 button joystick! Can't remember how many floppy disks it was on, hah. My other favorite was Jane's Longbow. I loved blowing up tanks! Which do you guys recommend for beginners to flight sims? Whichever you prefer. Many people prefer FSX for airliners due to the better modeling of all the switches, knobs and FMS, and X-Plane for smaller aircraft due to the better flight modeling. However, it's all personal preference so use whatever you feel you enjoy more.

Smae here, my instructor was impressed as when he handed me the card with what to say on it I did it without even looking at it and he was impressed. The Communictations should become a lot better after a bit of practice.

Hi Sergio. I am a pilot at AFA actually and happen to know that our tutorial is quite outdated and some points mentioned are now invalid. We are working on a new tutorial but for now I suggest sticking with the PRC, as you say it's great for beginners.
