Andrew Sutter 1094416 Posted April 12, 2009 at 01:59 PM Posted April 12, 2009 at 01:59 PM I usually fly the aircraft I presently own in FSEconomy, which is an Aviat Husky -- single-engine, two seat, tail-dragger, with a cruise speed of around 100kts. Am I still required to file/fly SIDs and STARS, or are those reserved for the big-metal? I haven't been flying online much since I purchased this aircraft because adding a SID/STAR to my flightplan adds another 1/2-hour to 45-minutes to my 1-1/2 hour flights (and the FSX ATC doesn't require, or even allow you to fly them). My plane also doesn't have an integrated GPS, so flying direct to fixes/intersections must be done manually, or roundabout using DME. I enjoy flying on VATSIM, but since I'm responsible for all fuel costs in FSEconomy, any added mileage cuts into my profits. Any suggestions??? ~ Andrew
Romano Lara Posted April 12, 2009 at 02:28 PM Posted April 12, 2009 at 02:28 PM Well, in my understanding ... small or large, charts is required. Then if your not properly equipped with the required instruments to fly an instrument departure or arrival, then dont file a SID or STAR. You dont really want to if you cant, right? So yeah. That'll surely save your time and less inconvenience. If your going to fly VFR, then you might want to have a Operational Navigation Chart (ONC), available at the nearest aviation supplies near you, I think Jeppesen have them too. Andrew Pechmann Posted May 23, 2009 at 10:27 PM Posted May 23, 2009 at 10:27 PM If you file "no sid/star" you're more likely to NOT recieve one. What you'll typically see is an amended clearance with the SID or STAR literally given to you fix to fix to fix.....
