James Garaway 1098299 Posted April 20, 2009 at 03:51 PM Posted April 20, 2009 at 03:51 PM This may seem a stupid question, but I have just signed up for Vatsim and I don't know how to connect to a game? Thanks
Norman Blackburn Posted April 20, 2009 at 04:01 PM Posted April 20, 2009 at 04:01 PM Hi James, If you are using Microsoft Flight Simulator go and grab a copy of Squawkbox from www.squawkbox.ca or FSInn from www.mcdu.com Both of these come with manuals that explain how to connect; both are simple enough to do although you should really read a few pointers if installing and using FSInn (look at the forum for further [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istance). If you are using X-Plane you will need a plugin, with great help available. All three have forums here at VATSIM under the Pilot Client section. You should also check out VATSIM's Pilot Resource Centre (also known as The PRC) at www.vatsim.net/prc Finally the UK Division has a forum full of great help, as well as Pilot Training, at www.vatsim-uk.org Norman
Daniel Eamon Brennan Posted April 20, 2009 at 04:12 PM Posted April 20, 2009 at 04:12 PM Finally the UK Division has a forum full of great help, as well as Pilot Training, at http://www.vatsim-uk.org The UK site seems to have encountered a little bit of bother...(unless it's my browser), controllers or network supervisors are a good source of help too, oh, and welcome to VATSIM. Ian Robson Posted April 20, 2009 at 05:26 PM Posted April 20, 2009 at 05:26 PM Hi James, Can I suggest you download and install VATSpy - http://www.metacraft.com/VATSpy/ - this will show you where Controllers are currently logged on within the world. VATSIM is one big 'game\simulation'. Everyone is connected to the same environment regardless of which server you actually connect to. I would recommend reading the PRC - http://vatsim.net/prc/, as this will help you get up to speed with what you need to know. Hope this helps Ian

Norman Blackburn Posted April 20, 2009 at 07:36 PM Posted April 20, 2009 at 07:36 PM James, You really need to forget anything and everything you already know about multiplayer - Flightsim doesnt connect to a multiplayer server so ignore that multiplayer menu in FSX. Squawkbox, or FSInn connects to the multiplayer server and automatically injects traffic into FSX. Norman

craig workman 929129 Posted April 21, 2009 at 03:42 PM Posted April 21, 2009 at 03:42 PM What you do is once you have installed either FSinn or Sqwkbox just start a flight in free flight position yourself at a gate or parking area and you should have an add-on menu at the top of your screen. Click that and you will see the option for either FS-copilot or sqwkbox open the applicaiton while in flightsim and connect using that, everything else is done automatically. Hope that helps.
