Alan Ramsay 905664 Posted April 21, 2009 at 10:12 AM Posted April 21, 2009 at 10:12 AM Some time ago, like many others who have written to the forum, I couldn't see other planes on multi-player. I un-installed my McAfee programme, installed AVG, and all was well. Returning recently to on-line flying after a short absence, I had the same problem again. sometimes 1 other aircraft only, sometimes none. I uninstalled AVG - worked perfectly. Updated it - same problem - no traffic. The forum has identified AVG update 8.0.1.196 as being the problem. So my query is - is it possible to get rid of it, and if so, how ? Otherwise, to run the system without updates seems dangerous to me. I would be grateful for any advice. Cheers, Alan Ramsay

Cheers, Alan Ramsay If you’re running Vista, running the Microsoft quickfix linked in the FSInn/VATSIM FAQ will probably suffice. This topic might grow like the last few. Alan Ramsay 905664 Posted April 21, 2009 at 09:53 PM Author Posted April 21, 2009 at 09:53 PM Larry - Thanks for that. I have read these posts, and they all seem to have the same problem as myself. I see a reference to an item called fixfiles.zip, but can't see a link to it - can you help ? Cheers, Alan

The fixfiles.zip isn't asked very frequent and isn't included in the FAQ. -- L. James -- L. D. Alan Ramsay 905664 Posted April 22, 2009 at 03:32 PM Author Posted April 22, 2009 at 03:32 PM Just to let you know I've solved the problem. AVG has a firewall called Resident Shield, which had recently been updated, and that had prevented the data from Squawkbox getting through. Resident Shield has a section called exclusions - I put the Squawkbox site in there, so it no longer gets scanned. And back came all the other aircraft. I hope this might help others who have the same problem. Alan Ramsay.
