Luke Harding 1106773 Posted April 22, 2009 at 01:49 PM Posted April 22, 2009 at 01:49 PM Please can someone help? I have been trying to get VATSIM to work for the last 10 days. I have followed several user guides online, installed uninstalled and reinstalled dozens of times, adjusted all the settings but still can't transmit or receive voice, or at least I can't hear any voices!!!! All other sound effects are working perfectly. My speakers and mic work perfectly in skype but not when I am trying to use them with FSINN. I am running FSX with SP2 through XP. I have sat in Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton & Bristol airports tuning through the various channels. I did briefly get the end of a message as I was changing channels once but never again. I have followed the online instructions, within FSINN Control Panel the VATSIM button is green, there is a cloud next to it, the network image in the top left is green, the central button (can't remember what it says) is green, I have tried transmitting/receiving when there are both a 'C' and an 'S' in the top right corner, I am logged on, I have tried all European and UK servers, I have moved airports on numerous occasions ch[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ing different ATC, I have changed the PTT button to almost every key on the keyboard, but still nothing. What am I doing wrong? It is driving me crazy now!!!!
Steven Perry Posted April 22, 2009 at 04:13 PM Posted April 22, 2009 at 04:13 PM Are you able to communicate with the controllers over the text channel? More precisely, are you absolutely sure you have tuned the correct COM frequency? Posting screenshots of your audio configuration within FSInn is probably the next step. One way or another, we'll get you set up & flying. Welcome to VATSIM! Steven Perry VATSIM Supervisor
Luke Harding 1106773 Posted April 22, 2009 at 04:30 PM Author Posted April 22, 2009 at 04:30 PM Yep, double checked the comm frequency and ensured that I am on comm1. I can't text/chat, every time I click the button I get an error mesage, I don't remember what it says off the top of my head, but there were threads with exact;y the same problem. Will log onto FSX & VATSIM in a bit so can upload some screenshots if it would help? I tried to follow these but they all seemed to be for FS2004 or an older version of FSINN with different options. Lennart Vedin Posted April 22, 2009 at 06:49 PM Posted April 22, 2009 at 06:49 PM If you can't communicate using text, then focus to solve that. The voice has more dependensies, while text only require correct running and connected client ( i.e. FSInn). Make sure you can connect correct and so the client say connected. And research the message-error solution while try use text. / Lennart Vedin /

Cheers Luke Hi, Luke. Look at the FSInn help forum. There’s a “Please read before posing” in that forum sticky that will resolve most of the issues that you have with FSInn and VATSIM. Look at the two messages indicated in the bold item #1 of that sticky. First follow close the first of the two messages (which is the installation steps). It takes you from the download all the way up to the first connection to VATSIM and has a troubleshooting section that should be reviewed. After following the steps to insure you have a proper installation, you might look at the First Flight tutorial in the PRC. You can download Servinfo (links provided in the software addons section of the PRC) to see which facilities are staffed with ATC. Use the suggested format of the bold item #3 of the please read sticky if you have problems. If you can't communicate using text, then focus to solve that. The voice has more dependensies, while text only require correct running and connected client ( i.e. FSInn). Make sure you can connect correct and so the client say connected. And research the message-error solution while try use text. Hi, Lennart. The focus isn't an issue with the latest version of FSInn. There were various problems with the previous one. I'm not sure if that was one of them. The information I provided him with strongly discourages using the older version. -- L. James -- L. D. Variety is always good. You answered directly the users question. I’m not saying you’re not suggesting my answer isn’t great also. I just want to clarify for anyone that might wonder. It was my intentions to answer the user’s question, while at the same time taking a moment to show him how to navigate out great forum utility. Some people might miss recognizing the various forum areas we have on VATSIM. When browsing the forum names, looking for the FSInn Help forum, there’s a change they might notice that we have a Computer Hardware Forum, A Squawkbox Forum, A Screen Shot Forum, A new VATSIM FAQ forum (which I’ll start using regularly for references), a Charts, Navigation and Flightplanning Help forum, just to name a few. -- L. Larry James 901346 Posted May 20, 2009 at 08:30 PM Posted May 20, 2009 at 08:30 PM I have googled FSINN forum but all I can find is a forum at MCDU.com Hey Luke, just a friendly FYI that MCDU.com are the developers of FSInn While you’re most likely right that it couldn’t hurt to visit the developer’s site of every piece of software on a person’s computer, I would consider the site where it’s specifically used to be very important. On the developers site we discuss many things that are not VATSIM related and might be confusing to some VATSIM users. On the VATSIM, FSInn Help forum the issues dealt with there are very specific for issues dealing with using the FSInn pilot client on VATSIM. If the user finds the FSInn Help forum on VATSIM, the stickies do link to the developer’s site, so having this important information will kind of be good for both worlds. If the users are pointed directly to the mcdu.com site and skip the VATSIM, FSInn Help forum, it might take them a little longer to get to some of the very specific VATSIM issues and find their way to the FSInn Help forum on this site. -- L.
