Matthew Wadham 883221 Posted May 22, 2009 at 09:49 AM Posted May 22, 2009 at 09:49 AM I've been out of the flightsim loop for a while now, but I've got the money, so I want to get a new rig. I've decided to forego the FSX route and stick with the tried tested and true...FS9 (PMDG747 and LDS 767 are for it, and thats all I need). I need some advice though, because I have no idea whats good these days, for a comp that'll run XP and FS9, that'll get pretty good FPS in dense area. (my old comp, which I bought in about 2000, ran FS9 at nothing higher then 15fps...with no 3D clouds, in the middle of the sky, with a default plane...I was a deprived flightsimmer ) Thanks for the advice
Garry Morris 920567 Posted May 22, 2009 at 12:02 PM Posted May 22, 2009 at 12:02 PM Good luck finding a computer that comes with XP. Short of that, any desktop on the market should run FS9 reasonably well I would think. Someone will likely be along with some better advice shortly. http://www.execjetva.com
Matthew Wadham 883221 Posted May 22, 2009 at 12:11 PM Author Posted May 22, 2009 at 12:11 PM I was planning on building it myself...still no chance of running XP??
Joseph Sherrill 1047575 Posted May 22, 2009 at 12:44 PM Posted May 22, 2009 at 12:44 PM No, you can buy XP quite easily: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=368&name=Operating-Systems
Garry Morris 920567 Posted May 22, 2009 at 06:28 PM Posted May 22, 2009 at 06:28 PM Yup, can still build it yourself that way. Most folks on here go for prebuilt which is why I said that. Frankly, any reasonably modern hardware should run FS9 well. Remember a few things: 1. FS9 is pretty much single core and is very CPU intensive. Focus on a good high clockspeed on your processor. 2. 2gb of RAM recommended. 3. Having a second SATA hard drive (separate from the hard drive containing the OS - partitions don't count) to run FS9 is a good idea. http://www.execjetva.com

Ryan Whitford 995253 Posted June 10, 2009 at 08:58 AM Posted June 10, 2009 at 08:58 AM Build your Rig, I built my own for about 600 Bucks. Better Than buying form HP Dell Only because they make their own parts and you cant really upgrade anything in it..... If you dont know much about how to build it then check out http://www.ibuypower.com click on AMD or Intel and build from the lowest price computer up. http://www.allegiantva.org Join if you have skill!
