Austin Williams 1089499 Posted May 30, 2009 at 02:17 PM Posted May 30, 2009 at 02:17 PM Hi all, I spent about 2 hours the other night speaking with Steven Black about some training. We got talking about Delivery and how to work it. He felt that after that was said and done, I was ready for my S1 rating. However, he mentioned that when he logged into the instructors area to promote me, he found that I was not on the list. If I log onto the VATCAN.CA site and look under the Controller List, I am able to see myself on the NTU, just not under CZYZ. How can I transfer? And, would somebody be so willing to log onto the administrator/instructor area and if you are able see me, promote me to S1? I'm itching to get started on something, and if I don't I think I may just explode with excitement. I believe Steven put a note in there to other instructors about that. But, if anybody has a moment to spare, could they please see about promoting me to an S1 so I can actually start on Delivery? I feel I'm ready. Cheers, Austin. Danny Burtch 816098 Posted May 30, 2009 at 03:35 PM Posted May 30, 2009 at 03:35 PM If my memory serves me correctly you have to do the VRC radar exam first with Norm Guffick before you can move up to S1. Can any other instructors confirm this? Welcome to VATCAN and the CZYZ FIR! Danny Burtch CZYZ Senior Student
Joshua Black Posted May 30, 2009 at 04:41 PM Posted May 30, 2009 at 04:41 PM Not sure who you do the radar client training with in Toronto, but usually the Radar Client exam is done first. Try contacting VATCAN3 (Mike Bonanno) and see if he can maybe help you out, or if he can point you int he right direction. On a side note, you'll like Steve as an instructor. Cool guy. Austin Williams 1089499 Posted May 30, 2009 at 05:48 PM Author Posted May 30, 2009 at 05:48 PM He is indeed a very cool guy. I think I'll speak with Norman and see what he has to say about the situation. On another note, Steve and I went over a ton of stuff with the VRC client, I could be mistaken but I think he covered all of that. We went over deparute routes, fixes, altitudes, airways, how to find windows, how to utilize them, what windows to use, what to look for, how to open/edit a flightplan, weather and many more things. Can anyone confirm that this is the radar client training? I'll get in contact either way, Norman is a mentor, is he still able to promote? Cheers, Austin

Danny Burtch 816098 Posted June 1, 2009 at 04:30 AM Posted June 1, 2009 at 04:30 AM Not sure how many of our controllers monitor this forum. Your best bet for any requests is to post in the forums on the CZYZ FIR website: http://czyz.ca/phpBB3/index.php Also with regards to the radar client exam it looks like Steve gave you lots of great information about using and setting up VRC. The exam itself is done with Norm (or at least it was when I did it!!) and hopefully you have all the knowledge to p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] it. If I'm not mistaken you can do the exam online with Norm or there might be a separate docomeent that you do on your own time and then forward to him. But you can ask these questions in the CZYZ forums and I;m sure someone will have a definitive answer. Danny Burtch CZYZ Senior Student
Norman Guffick 935816 Posted June 1, 2009 at 07:18 AM Posted June 1, 2009 at 07:18 AM Austin I was responsible for the Radar Client Training in Toronto, however, since the development of the NTU (National Training Unit) this function has been incorporated into that Unit and is now run by Instructors. Being just a mentor Ihave no access to the training in that unit. I do hope that you can contact an INS at CZYZ (see contact list on website) and enquire further into that training Best regards Norm
Board of Governors Matthew Cianfarani Posted June 4, 2009 at 02:45 AM Board of Governors Posted June 4, 2009 at 02:45 AM Austin, Before you are promoted to S1 you will be required to complete some training with the VATCAN National Training Unit. I Believe Steve Black is your [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned instructor for both NTU and CZYZ training. You will need to learn on London DEL, GND and TWR before completing the S1 rating exam and then progressing to Toronto for training. If you have questions, feel free to post on the VATCAN forums or email any of the instructors Matthew Cianfarani Vice President , Technology VATSIM Board of Governors
Alan Taylor 825557 Posted June 5, 2009 at 05:16 AM Posted June 5, 2009 at 05:16 AM Austin, I hope your situation has been cleared up by now (I will look into it) Unfortunately, you have joined VATCAN during a transitional phase as we are implementing our NTU or National Training Unit and as is want to be, a few bugs are occurring and the transition is...shall we say... a bit less than advertised. Welcome to VATSIM/VATCAN, I wish you success but more importantly...enjoy yourself and you never know - maybe you'll learn a bit along the way.
