I'm having lots of trouble.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, microsoft Vista and I'm running FSX-Deluxe edition w/Squawkbox 4.0

I am having no luck. FSX will freeze up, stating FSX not Responding, and sometimes squawkbox will do the same.

I've tried almost everything, I disabled my antivirus software, and have even tried disabling microsoft's firewall but with no luck. The computer freezes up.

I have plenty of memory with a Pentium processor.

Please help, Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "module". All I did was download SB4, unzipped it, I ran it, and it is now in my add-on drop down box for FSX. Everything downloaded successfully.

You can also start SB thru the start menu. it will help with the lagging in FS and might help with the freezing as well. give it a shot

I have tried that, but I it won't let me run both FSX and squawkbox at the same time. FSX is in Pause mode whenever I access squawkbox from the the start menu.

When I'm flying squakbox is minimized to the task bar. Whenever I maximize it, FSX will pause. Basically I can't run squakbox and FSX at the same time if I access squawkbox externally.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Any advice?

Thanks for responding

to stop the pause on task switch go to your general settings. and make sure the box next to Pause on task switch is not checked

no worries. once you open FSX on the left side click on settings. then on right side under Other Settings. click on the 4th button down labeled "General..."

Still having problems. For some reason when I unchecked the box and saved the settings, it didn't take. Cannot run Squakbox and FSX simultaneously when running SB$ external. I even rebooted the system.

- Richard

I appreciate you trying to help me out.

I do have both service packs installed. This is really strange. I'm thinking now that my computer may be too slow to operate FSX & Squawkbox at the same time. I really hope this is not the case.

Thanks

I finally got everything working good now. I had the frame rate per second too high in the FSX settings. I have it now at it's minimum setting of 10 and I am having no problems staying connected and no freezing of FSX. This along with my personal settings in FSX, I have everything running smooth.

What setting you set this at, I guess depends on how powerful your computer is. I have windows vista 32- bit and the best configuration for this in order to work is at it's minimum setting of 10.

If anyone runs into this problem try the following, as it worked for me.

1) 3rd party firewall/Antivirus is deactivated or OFF, (KEEP the Windows Firewall ON or activated).

2) CHECK the Settings in FSX under the Graphics tab. Adjust the Target Frame Rate for your Computer. I have Vista 32-bit and by trial & error I was able to find the best setting to operate FSX & Squawkbox without any computer freezing, which happens to be the minimum setting of 10 for my computer. (Slide bar all the way to the left)

My personal settings in FSX are as follows; (This will at least get you so your computer will not freeze along with the Target Frame Rate). The following settings will vary with computer and you may find you can increase these settings if you have a faster computer than mine.

GRAPHICS Tab - Global Texture Resolution / Medium

AIRCRAFT Tab - UNCHECK High Resolution 3-D Virtual cockpit - (Unless you really have to fly the plane in 3-D, personally, I just use this view for Taxiing.

- 2-D Panel Transparency - 0%

SCENERY Tab - Level of Detail Radius / Medium

- Mesh Complexity / 25

- Mesh Resolution / 152 m

- Texture Resolution / 2 m

- Water Effects / Low

- Scenery Compexity / Normal

- Autogen Density / None

- Special effects detail / Low

WEATHER Tab - Cloud Draw Distance / 70 mi

- Detailed Clouds

- Cloud Coverage Density / Low

TRAFFIC Tab - "Everything is at 0 except, Airport Vehicle Density / Minimum

Again, use trial & error for your personal settings, but hopefully this will give users something to start out with.

If it still doesn't work, try going to your control panel, click on "User Accounts" and turn "User Account Control" off.
