Tim Wong Posted January 4, 2012 at 04:32 AM Posted January 4, 2012 at 04:32 AM Dear staff members of VATASIA, are you able to revive the booking system for controllers of VATSIM Asia Region? As controller, to me it is very difficult to plan ATC sessions without seeing when other controllers of my vACC also will be online. Most of my time I am on my own. It is not fun controlling alone but the most important thing is, it does not generate much traffic. As consequence, I will go offline very quick after logging-in or I even stay away from controlling. But also as pilot, it is very difficult to plan my flights. As the majority of members on VATSIM do, I don't (like) fly without ATC. Before flying, I usually take a quick look into ATC booking schedule at first to see when and - the most important thing - WHERE I will have or I can expect ATC coverage, for example with programs like ServInfo which connects to the data server of "VATBook/EU-Route Pro". I think, the revival and usage of the booking system may be one of many possibilities to increase the number of flights in Asia in general. Europe is a good example to see the connection of ATC booking and numbers of flights. You will see which ATC positions are manned by controllers at least for the evening today and tommorrow. Since pilots can see where ATC is available, there are much traffic at the individual airports and in its airspace. Flying with ATC is the reason why I am member of VATSIM instead of flying offline. I hope, the booking system will be reactivated. Besides, congratulations for establishing of ASEA_FSS on VATSIM. This is a important step to get more flights in and to Asia. Looking forward to see more Flight Service Stations (FSS) in hole Asia, not only in the south-eastern part. I am sure that members of EuroCenter vACC (http://euc-vacc.org) will help you to build up something similar for more flight activities. Deepan Mehta Posted January 4, 2012 at 05:18 AM Posted January 4, 2012 at 05:18 AM Tim A lot of things are being worked on for Asia , the ASEA FSS was the first major project which was undertaken and as you have seen it has just been successful. It is still a work in Progress though. As with many such projects a lot of time and effort is needed to undertake and complete them as one can imagine and there is always a shortage of manpower and help. Thanks for your feedback regarding the ATC system. If you are in a position to contribute in any way to these ideas feel free to send me a mail and we can take this forward. Any additional help is always welcome. In due course we will see many changes come about but it may take time and we in Asia are doing whatever possible to make this happen. Kar-Lok Wong 839249 Posted January 16, 2012 at 11:27 PM Author Posted January 16, 2012 at 11:27 PM Hi Tim, You are right, we should revive the ATC booking system. The main thing is that pilots/atc need to use the system otherwise it's useless. Our system is connected with EUROBOOK, so ATC bookings should be visible in ServInfo. The reason that the system is down for the moment is due to spam on our forum. Because we used the login/authentication method of phpBB. Tim Wong Posted January 17, 2012 at 03:31 PM Posted January 17, 2012 at 03:31 PM The main thing is that pilots/atc need to use the system otherwise it's useless. Hello Kar-Lok, In my opinion, pilots don't need book because they are educated to file a flightplan automatically before starting their flight but virtual Air Traffic Controllers (vATCo). vATCo should use the booking system to show pilots that there are controllers online in certain regions. That is the reason why I asked you to reactivate the booking system. After reactivating, the VATASIA Region staff has to tell their Division/vACC directors to educate their controllers to use that system. If you look into the ATC forcast of vroute or Servinfo, you will notice that there are many many vATCo every evening especially in Europe. As result, many vPilots flying in Europe.
