Matthew Iselin 1061577 Posted September 9, 2009 at 11:13 AM Posted September 9, 2009 at 11:13 AM Hi everyone, I've been away from flight simming for quite a while now, but I'm getting back into it now. I'm purchasing a new computer and I'd like to get the VATSIM community's perspective on the system. I'll be using it for FS9 and FSX and I'd like to know what sort of framerates I'd be able to expect in both (preferably with maximum visual settings). It'll also be used for my non-FS stuff (coding, university, etc...). So without further ado, here are what I consider the most relevant specs: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66GHz (Q8400) 8 GB Kingston PC8500 RAM (1066 MHz, 4x2G) Seagate SATAII 500 GB disk (16 MB cache) nVidia GTS250, 1GB I've looked at some reviews of similar hardware and it looks like this setup is rather powerful, but all the tests are on first-person shooters. Any first-hand experience would be awesome! I guess an additional thing I should ask is how well I'll go with a 64-bit OS with FS9 and FSX? Any caveats I should be aware of? Cheers! Carlos Palo 969743 Posted September 9, 2009 at 12:00 PM Posted September 9, 2009 at 12:00 PM With those specs you'll (probably) have no problems with FS9, FSX however is whole different ballgame. Check out this extensive guide how to tweak FSX and your PC for maximum performance. http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041 With my specs(check my signature), after applying a lot of helpful tips from this guide FSX runs smoothly with addons installed Carlos Palo FSX on C2D E8400 [email protected], Asus P5Q Pro, OCZ 2*2048MB (1066Mhz), XFX HD4870 1GB, Antec 300, Scythe Mugen 2, Samsung 24" 1920*1200 my FSX Videos
