Robert Williamson 813098 Posted September 22, 2009 at 05:27 PM Posted September 22, 2009 at 05:27 PM Hello I posted this in the Squawkbox forum and thought Id give it a try on this one. I am currently running Fly! II (yes I know: old, but my desktop crashed and this is the best I can do right now) and I would love to get voice to work with it with Vatsim. I am using the last version of Squawkbox for it which is 3.24. This version doesn't have voice capability, but the manual says it works with Roger Wilco and AVC. It seems Roger Wilco no longer works with Vatsim, so I was wondering if anyone out there knew if AVC still works and if so, does anyone know where I might find a copy? David Klain 874106 Posted September 25, 2009 at 01:01 AM Posted September 25, 2009 at 01:01 AM Unfortunately we dropped support for that when we established the VATSIM Voice Library and integrated it into the ATC and pilot clients. Dave
Luke Kolin Posted September 25, 2009 at 01:09 AM Posted September 25, 2009 at 01:09 AM Isn't AVC a stand-alone implementation of the VVL? Cheers! Luke ... I spawn hundreds of children a day. Luke Kolin Posted September 25, 2009 at 03:39 AM Posted September 25, 2009 at 03:39 AM Not quite... I'm confused, then. AVC is listed as approved software here: http://www.vatsim.net/software.html (as is RW). I guess the list might need to be updated, but I'm still curious - what's the difference between AVC and the VVL that's in SB, VRC or FSINN? Cheers! Luke ... I spawn hundreds of children a day. David Klain 874106 Posted September 25, 2009 at 03:57 AM Posted September 25, 2009 at 03:57 AM As an NDA'd developer, you can discuss that with Ross, Luca or Mike. As you know, we won't go into software technical details in this forum. Dave
Luke Kolin Posted September 25, 2009 at 04:36 AM Posted September 25, 2009 at 04:36 AM As an NDA'd developer, you can discuss that with Ross, Luca or Mike. As you know, we won't go into software technical details in this forum. I still don't understand, and my apologies if I've steered us in an overly technical direction. I only meant to say that my understanding was that AVC provided voice client capabilities for pilot software that didn't have the VVL integrated. The confusion I'm attempting to resolve is that you say VATSIM has dropped support for RW and AVC, yet the VATSIM web site says they're approved voice clients. I don't see what this has to do with the NDA. Cheers! Luke ... I spawn hundreds of children a day. They are daemons because they are easier to kill. Alexander Nolting 887789 Posted September 27, 2009 at 01:49 AM Posted September 27, 2009 at 01:49 AM Isn't AVC a stand-alone implementation of the VVL? Cheers! Luke For me as an not NDA'ed technically interested person, this is a an obvious matter And further in my opinion, a reason for the whole NDA existing thing. It is just the coincidence of sequence of historic events. As background information RogerWilco server and client technology are still owned by the gamespy company. Nothing said There are still some approved clients depending on the standalone AVC with its RW protocol interface. I didn't remember any NOTAM of a revoked approval. quoted from gamespy: "....Roger Wilco is now published by GameSpy Industries, creators of the widely-used GameSpy 3D and GameSpy Arcade multiplayer gaming tools. Partner with Roger Wilco Roger Wilco's voice technology can be licensed for bundling and/or integration with games and other net-based applications." “the biggest enemy of freedom are happy slaves“
