Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted September 24, 2009 at 08:32 PM Posted September 24, 2009 at 08:32 PM I'm usually really good about following the install instructions for adding an aircraft into the FS9 Aircraft file. I don't just blindly go in...I actually take the time to read the "Read Me" file that comes with the majority of the aircraft available from the likes of AVSIM, FSDownloads, etc. However, I downloaded a KC135 panel from AVSIM last night and I find myself perplexed. The "Read Me" said in essence to unzip the entire file to a temporary location...then unzip the enclosed "Panel" file directly into the aircraft file in FS9 after deleting the original panel file, so I did. The installation instructions went on to say unzip the "Gauges" file into the main FS9 "Gauges" file, so I did. When I selected the aircraft in FS9, the new panel was there with a few...very few...gauges in places. The rest was a blank panel, not even holes for the gauges to go in. I looked inside the panel file and didn't see anything unusual. I looked inside the FS9 "Gauges" file and found another "Gauges" file within it. Inside the second gauges file are all the KC135 gauges as well as some more unzipped files. Going back to the install instructions to doublecheck, I found I had followed the instructions just as they were written. No mention of unzipping files within the zipped "Gauges" file are anywhere in the installation instructions. I backed up my FS9 "Gauges" file and then unzipped all the zipped files in FS9/Gauges/gauges into FS9/Gauges/gauges, overwriting where it asked "overwrite these files?". Going back into FS9 and selecting the KC135 revealed no changes in the appearance of the panel. Copying everything from the FS9/Gauges/gauges file into the FS9/Gauges file also revealed no changes, but an awful lot of "overwriting" was being done. And all the other aircraft seemed to suffer nothing from the "overwriting" of files shared by more than one aircraft. Note that after each "Unzip" or "Copy" I got completely out of FS9, shut my system down and restarted it in case changes weren't good without a restart. Even though nothing seemed to suffer, I deleted my experimental "Gauges" file and restored the original after everything, so I now have a new clean slate. Any ideas how to get gauges on my KC135? The aircraft came from AVSIM with a B-777 panel and I would like a realistic KC135 panel. Randy Tyndall - KBOI ZLA I-11/vACC Portugal P4 “A ship is always safe in the harbor. Board of Governors Roger Curtiss Posted September 27, 2009 at 05:22 PM Board of Governors Posted September 27, 2009 at 05:22 PM Unfortunately, I do not have a definitve answer for you. But to clarify- when you unzipped FS/Gauges/gauges to FS/Gauges the individual files in Gauges/gauges did install individually in FS/Gauges? In other words, you no longer had the entire 'guages' file in your FS/Gauges folder. If this is the case, and from your description it sounds as if it is- I am at a loss to explain the problem. If nothing else, go back to the Readme and see if you can contact the panel designer.
