x-plane 9, intel mac, and xsquawk will it work?

Forgive me if this has already been addressed, as I have been searching the forums and internet for hours trying to figure this out and just need some clarification.

 

Situation: I have an intel mac, running snow leopard, and want to start using vatsim. I'm trying to figure out whether or not xplane 9 will run with xsquawkbox properly. The website does not show any compatibility with 9, although in these forums I'm understanding it does work but not well on intel macs. Is this right?

 

I thought x-plane was supposed to be more realistic and will run on osx, but it seems as though I may have to run FSX in windows to avoid compatibility issues. Does anyone have any experience with this? I have not purchased xplane yet to try it, as I want to make sure I have a working solution first.
