Sebastien Bartosz Posted November 7, 2009 at 12:27 AM Posted November 7, 2009 at 12:27 AM Is it possible to make the max number of scratchpad characters from 4 to 5? Enough to fit a fix in there? New York ARTCC

Sebastien Bartosz Posted November 7, 2009 at 01:14 AM Author Posted November 7, 2009 at 01:14 AM oh May I ask why you programmed with 4 characters max? New York ARTCC
Ross Carlson Posted November 7, 2009 at 01:37 AM Posted November 7, 2009 at 01:37 AM That's the way many of the real world systems work. Developer: vPilot, VRC, vSTARS, vERAM, VAT-Spy Senior Controller, Boston Virtual ARTCC

Ross Carlson Posted November 7, 2009 at 05:27 AM Posted November 7, 2009 at 05:27 AM Why do you need 5 characters max? He said he wants to put a fix (intersection) in the scratchpad. Obviously, you could just put the first 4 chars of the fix in. I doubt any sector ever has two fixes with the same first 4 characters, and if it did, just drop one of the other characters. Ernesto Alvarez 818262 Posted November 7, 2009 at 05:53 AM Posted November 7, 2009 at 05:53 AM in ZMA we used to have a system for our scratchpad entries. for fixes MNATE = MNT EONNS = EON HEDLY = HED WINCO = WIN etc.... for SIDS MNATE1 = MN1 BEECH1 = BE1 ARKES1 = AR1 etc... you can probably develop your own system, if your ARTCC/FIR doesnt do it already
Sebastien Bartosz Posted November 7, 2009 at 09:12 AM Author Posted November 7, 2009 at 09:12 AM For SIDS yea, we do for exampe LA1B OP1A RA1G etc. New York ARTCC

Wow, I need to brush up on my readings skills. [Mod - Happy Thoughts]uming you're talking about departures, another solution is the flight strip bay. I tend to prefer this very much over the scratchpad entries. Clearing scratchpad entries is one more step that I don't like to have to do as a departure controller. Is it possible in the real world for a tower controller to enter information in the scratchpad? I've always wondered this.
