Dustin Largent 1132283 Posted November 10, 2009 at 05:24 AM Posted November 10, 2009 at 05:24 AM Hello, I have read all of the material at the PRC and have a few questions I can't seem to find the answer to. First, I was having a problem spawning at KATL in Atlanta, GA. I was sitting on the ramp doing my preflight checklist, when all of a sudden a 737 spawned right on top of me, which made me restart. I disconnected and selected another spot on the ramp, and when I loaded up, another 737 was there. I picked perhaps a dozen different parking areas, and the same thing happened each time. I think this was a glitch, because I don't believe there was anywhere near enough people in the area to occupy that many parking spots. Secondly, I am having trouble understanding the ATC system. I was at KATL, and it said the nearest controller was at KMIA. I am [Mod - Happy Thoughts]uming that a controller that far away would not be able to come into contact me with on the VATSIM servers. In that scenario, would I treat KATL as an uncontrolled airport and just use UNICOM? Third, my sound sometimes cuts out while I am connected to VATSIM. It doesn't do this just for the game, but rather my system as a whole. Restarting fixes the problem, but I would like to find a fix so I am able to use radios and enjoy the sounds of FSX. I am thinking that perhaps I am using old FSINN/COPILOT software, but so far I have been unable to find a version number to see if I need to upgrade. What are the current versions of each? Ernesto Alvarez 818262 Posted November 10, 2009 at 05:45 AM Posted November 10, 2009 at 05:45 AM for the first one. im [Mod - Happy Thoughts]uming you are using FSINN, disable P2P (peer to peer) in your FSINN options. thats the main cause of this one. its creating a "clone" of a nearby aircraft. after disabling P2P, it should go away for the second one, you are correct, you would treat it as uncontrolled as there were no controllers handling ATL at the time. the sound issue, doesnt sound fsinn related. have you updated your sound drivers? Dustin Largent 1132283 Posted November 10, 2009 at 05:56 AM Author Posted November 10, 2009 at 05:56 AM Thank you for the prompt response. As far as disabling p2p goes, what would be the downsides of doing this? I only use payware aircraft for the most part, and would like for other people on the server to be able to see me in my correct aircraft instead of displaying the one most similar to it from the default selection of planes in FSX. I guess I am still confused on how custom aircraft work on VATSIM. What are some good areas that usually have a fair amount of traffic? I usually play between 2100 and 300 GMT-5. If someone were seeing your Aircraft as the actual payware that you see on your screen, it'd probably grind their system to nearly a hault. By the way, you started your topic in the wrong forum. Look at the sticky above that refers to FSInn and Squawkbox. I'll strongly encourage you to visit the FSInn forum. If you start out with the stickies in that forum it'll [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist you with a lot of your confusion. Reviewing the list of FAQ questions, specifically the one that refers to performance might help clarify some of the reasons to avoid the specific payware visual on other's users' computers. -- L. You're right. It won't magically appear on everybody's visual, but it will most likely appear on some, because some will likely some will have then same. Of course if he has the same payware that others have it will on his. If he visits the FAQ it might save him from having his system grinned to a hault. This is way I suggested the he considers visiting the correct forum and looking at the FAQ questions, especially the one regarding performance. It might think the performance issue that he'll get is just an annoyance he has to live with and not even think to ask the question when it happens to him. But having visited the FAQ will save him of this issue. -- L. James -- L. D.
