Ernesto Alvarez 818262 Posted November 24, 2009 at 05:50 PM Posted November 24, 2009 at 05:50 PM recently finished rebuilding my new gaming pc, thnx to some friends who donated some parts im thinking of adding more fans to the pc then i have. quick question tho, i only have 1 fan input on the board. so would i have to splice the current fans wires and wire them all together with that one or is there another way to do it? Luke Kolin Posted November 24, 2009 at 06:06 PM Posted November 24, 2009 at 06:06 PM im thinking of adding more fans to the pc then i have. Unless your temps are too high, more fans = more power + more noise. quick question tho, i only have 1 fan input on the board. so would i have to splice the current fans wires and wire them all together with that one or is there another way to do it? The motherboard fan headers do not provide power. They are used for monitoring and speed control. You can hook up additional fans to your PSU; they all should have a standard molex connector. Cheers! Ernesto Alvarez 818262 Posted November 24, 2009 at 06:38 PM Author Posted November 24, 2009 at 06:38 PM the MB temp is running between 33/35C - 92-95F the CPU temp is hanging around 53C / 127F about same as the last owner was running it at. just dont want it to get hotter. granted im still breaking in the new thermal compound aswell. i have an old PC i have in the shed which i use for parts whenever i need them so planning on taking its fan and adding it to this one so i have one blowing in and one blowing out, more cooler i can keep it the better, it can get pretty hot down here in florida. mainly shooting for more air circulation
Ross Carlson Posted November 25, 2009 at 08:17 PM Posted November 25, 2009 at 08:17 PM The motherboard fan headers do not provide power. They are used for monitoring and speed control. You can hook up additional fans to your PSU; they all should have a standard molex connector. The last few systems I built had motherboards with fan headers that supplied power. Some are three pin, which are common, 12v, and sensing. Some are four pin, which are common, 12v, sensing, and control. Ernesto, if your board has only one fan header, it's probably intended for the CPU fan. Case fans you would need to run off your PSU. If you tried to splice them all onto the motherboard fan header, you might draw more current than that single supply point it is rated for.
