Eric Scott Posted September 15, 2005 at 12:18 AM Posted September 15, 2005 at 12:18 AM AS the topic says, bear with some of my problems thus far. Just got everything installed and am trying to get it perfectly setup how I like it. #1 FS2004 was working fine... I adjusted the graphics to where they look the best (even though I still would like them sharper for terrain) Now the problem is clouds are showing up as really ugly square shaped blocks... not the nice clouds I was seeing upon initial install. #2 Aircraft including my own, appear as grey shells with no painting on them... sometimes I can see mine becomes painted after flying for 20-30 minutes.... but usually all I see is a grey shell airplane. What gives? ALL the planes are doing this when I try to select one for flight. #3 So SB3 and FSINN function essentially the same.. correct me if I am wrong... I seem to perfer FSINN simply because it 'looks nicer' and fits into the theme of an aircraft, instead of the ugly windows boxes.... can anyone tell me reasons to use SB3 instead? #4 Totally off topic from the post, but might as well include it in here... since flying the training included with FS2004, I still have trouble with the trim.. and getting trim to work properly. I understand the concept and what to do... but even after taking off in my little cessna I can try and trim for level flight.. but the nose always seems to want to bounce up and down and not really stay steady as it did in my tutorial flights. #5 almost forgot... sounds... sometimes when I enter the cockpit and goto an outside view, and back in... the engine sound is low or nonexistant, I have to turn sounds off/on to get it back, or alt-tab out and back in... its very annoying. Also sometimes the engine sound will be fine at idle, but as the throttle increases it slowly fades out to nothing, weird no? Let me know if anyone can help please and thanks guy/girls
Eric Scott Posted September 15, 2005 at 02:11 AM Author Posted September 15, 2005 at 02:11 AM Update... did a total reinstall of FS2004... dont have anything else added yet except the patch. ok.... graphics are cranked to near maximum, good framereates... have followed the directions from a site for 9800 pro's and fs2004. *still problems exist... no textures on any airplanes (rips out hair) *clouds are horrible looking, would see better clouds in a 1992 sim... nothing like what I saw upon first install *little white boxes litter the ground textures, looks like a texture for tree's trying to load but cant be found (same as planes?) *engine sounds still cutting out, move around views and suddenly no engine sound, have to alt tab out and back in to get it again... have tried moving between high and medium sound quality... no changes apparent. *missing textures on the virtual cockpit now as well. PLEASE someone help... this makes no sense, i just did a clean install!
Eric Scott Posted September 15, 2005 at 05:06 AM Author Posted September 15, 2005 at 05:06 AM Hazaa! Ok... lord knows what fixed it... but I uninstalled the newest ATI driver I had installed, and put in the newest Omega Driver instead.... after seeing a post about having good things to say about this driver. Lord knows why the newest ATI driver wasnt working properly with FS2004, or why it worked then stopped... but all my problems graphically and it appears sound-wise are fixed. Dont tell me how a video card driver can effect my sound ... but Now I am happy, if only I could fly decent I would be a very happy pilot

Dave Wild Posted September 15, 2005 at 10:00 PM Posted September 15, 2005 at 10:00 PM Hi Eric, A couple of points. 4) For flying the default Cessna you may wish to try the RealAir Simulations version with a more realistic air file, the trim may work better for you. Download the free files from RealAir's web site http://www.realairsimulations.com/ 5) Most people suggest setting sound quality to low in the sim and setting sound acceleration to 'basic' or 'off' on your sound card as both these can impact frame rates, as does high graphics settings and lots of cloud. As a user of the Radeon 9800Pro I would be interested to know which version of the Omega drivers you are using and which site you refer to about 9800Pro's and FS2004. Alberto Molteni 915217 Posted September 16, 2005 at 02:31 AM Posted September 16, 2005 at 02:31 AM Hazaa!Dont tell me how a video card driver can effect my sound ... but Try uploading a few megs of files via ftp with IE. I did so when installing a forum on my website: the sound card went bonkers, I was on TeamSpeak with a friend and neither of us could understand what we were saying. As soon as I closed IE, hey presto! things worked again. Now try explaining that! On a more serious note, PC components do have this annoying tendency to interact in the worst possible way, keeping the drivers updated usually does the trick. As for your question on SB3, I think the main advantage over FSInn is the fact that it handles voice on its own, without the need for AVC. It also gives you the opportunity to tune both COM1 and COM2. Having said that, I use FSInn and I'm lloking forward to the next version, which should have built-in voice. Happy flying on Vatsim Alberto Alberto Molteni
