Trent Hopkinson 0
During this december I have decided to do a quick round the world with a twist. Instead of travelling around the world the usual way, east to west, I will be flying up and down the world north to south travelling from Australia up through Asia, Over the top to see Santa, down the Americas and then flying over the Antarctic Continent to the Wilkins Runway, Visiting at least one other Antarctic base, then back to Australia. 8 flights in total. Trent Hopkinson 0
I'm showing roughly 10 hours on that flightplan. If you want shorter, I'm willing to go to Florida instead but both should work. Romano Lara 3
10 hours to South America from New York? That should do fine. If we plan to depart around 0030Z (0830H) I estimate that we will arrive in South America somewhere around 1000Z which should be 1800H for me. I'm up for it! Bring on the flight plan Captain Trent. Jody Turner 1018734 0
Trent, what happens at the north pole? Just wondering because it would seem you would be going in a straight line, but transition from a 360 heading to a 180 heading. Trent Hopkinson 0
Yep. The Comp[Mod - Happy Thoughts] does some funky things. My route was some way from the actual pole (about 200nm 'south' if you wish) but the comp[Mod - Happy Thoughts] does swing some way while you are tracking a straight line. Fortunatley FMC's, INS etc doesn't rely on comp[Mod - Happy Thoughts]es but on full co-ordinates etc to track by, so the line is straight and true even as the comp[Mod - Happy Thoughts] is visibly moving around at quite some rate of speed (while bank angle is 0 - quite a sight in it's own way) In the PMDG, the placement of the Magenta line and waypoints in your ND won't move, but the comp[Mod - Happy Thoughts] arc along the top moves around, usually precessing in one direction slowly, but noticiably.
