Gotcha. thanks for the clarification. Still sounds like it will turn into a fun time wether I get to see my old neighborhood. It's probably a shopping mall by now anyhow *hehehe* I will deffinately be bringing my laptop so if we do have a huge lan party I'll be ready if I can afford it when the time comes.

Hooray Naperville. That's where I grew up. Too bad I'll more than likely be stuck in California or I could've helped show the out of towners around as well.

I used to live in Naperville.

Anyway, hopefully I'll be able to go to this. Just depends on price and if I'll be playing baseball on those days...

A question...I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume the hotel for the event will be near Ohare? I was considering flying to Midway possibly for cheaper fares but if its in Ohare the cab fare to get up there would kinda be hefty I'm sure.

Hi Mark,

It'll be the Hilton at ORD... We are working out the final details now. Shouldn't be too much longer.

A good resource is the FlyChicago website with links to EVERYTHING you need to know about Ohare and Midway and how to get back and forth...

As I am now heading up the planning for the convention....here's the update.

We are currently finalizing the contract with the hotel over the meeting room space and hotel reservations. Currently I am guessing that we will need about 35 rooms. Unless I see at least 30 people committed to going, and reserving a room at the hotel, we'll keep this number. That being said, hotel reservations should start within a week. Lance (God bless his soul because I don't know HTML to save my life) will be creating the registration website for signups.

We will block off about 35 rooms, and the cost 89 dollars a night. If we sell those out, then we will make more room if the hotel still has it available. The cost of the meeting rooms and banquet should come to about 90 dollars a person.

Basically, we'll have cl[Mod - Happy Thoughts]es and lectures in the morning, and several people will be raffled to go on a tour of an ATC facility in the area (*cough* ZAU). I'm still working on getting other tours and activities going, and I believe we'll also have demonstrations going in the meantime as well. In the evening we will have a buffet-style dinner and raffle off some door prizes.

That's all I have right now. More when I get the info.

Mark, when will the Raffle take place for the tour.

Please keep in mind that us Canucks, will need quite a bit of notice, so we can properly submit our Information to homeland security, or whoever has to check us out. I know this was the case for 1 Canadian in ZBW for the Boston Tracon Tour.

Thanks.

The convention will be March 24, 25, and 26. Please plan accordingly. I will be putting a poll on here to gauge how many people will be there.

Mark you misunderstood me I think. I meant, when will the raffle results be known, Again, it takes time for someone out of the country to get clearance, and I'd like to try my luck at it.

I will be attending this convention and look forward to seeing all of you!

not trying to step on anyone’s toes here, but because I work for a large scale resort/ Hotel chain I did some asking around to see what type of deal I could conger up.

If you mention the VATSIM convention, The Hyatt Regency (a 4 star resort) in ORD will sell you a room for 2 nights at $89.00 per night plus tax. The Marriott Deerfield has also agreed to match that rate. Both resorts have a shuttle that will transport to wherever the convention is located. I'm in contact with a few other places as well -all 4 or 5 star resorts/spa's and all are under 109.00 per night.

If you're interested, you can email me at chad (at) chadblack.com

To the planners of this event, if this post is in ANY way bad or not for the best interest of those involved, please remove it.

The raffle will be conducted AT the convention, during the lectures/cl[Mod - Happy Thoughts]es in the morning. There will be other activities going on, so long as the people that I have been trying to contact answer their phones....
