It's not the "follow the river" part. It's the timing for the turn that is an issue.

And the fact that it doesn't help that you actually come upon rwy 15 first on your approach which is shorter than 19

A good job in aviation is one where you live to brag about your exploits and don't find yourself explaining to the NTSB and FAA why you did (or didn't do) what you did (or failed to do).

Haha, true. Granted, my point about the River Visual is more pertaining to night landings, where it's harder to see the river. To compare that to Aspen, where the airport has to close at night, even to VIP traffic, and not solely due to noise abatement.

didn't they mention Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont/SBRJ?

I always thought that was a bit challenging too,landing A320's and 737's on 1342 meters of tarmac.
