2017 VATSpy Update Suggestion Thread

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Can you please add:

Euro Control South - EURS_FSS : LTAA

LTUP|Turkey Control|LTBB,LTAA > LTAA|Turkey Control|LTBB,LTAA

Hello Sergejs,

LTAA added to EuroControl South (EURS).

Regarding your second request:

LTAA is already defined as "normal" FIR (e. g. lower & upper airspace), it's not possible to define it as upper area control, too (you need a separate callsign to do so). Could you please verify?

This is according TRvACC official web info:

This has nothing to do with Turkey Upper (LTUP). But anyway, thanks for pointing this out, will be done for the next update.

Btw, do you know if Istanbul FIR (LTBB) is now completely removed or still exists as "sub-sector" of LTAA (with new callsign "Ankara Control")?

Christoph,

Can you explain why all of the following entries are in VATSpy.dat ?

KLAX|Los Angeles Intl CA|33.942536|-118.408075|LAX|KZLA|0
KLAX|Los Angeles Intl CA|33.942536|-118.408075|LA|KZLA|0
KLAX|Los Angeles Intl CA|33.942536|-118.408075|SOCAL|KZLA|1
KLAX|Los Angeles Intl CA|33.942536|-118.408075|SOCA|KZLA|1
KLAX|Los Angeles Intl CA|33.942536|-118.408075|SCAL|KZLA|1
KLAX|SOCAL Combined|33.942536|-118.408075|SCT|KZLA|1
KLAX|Los Angeles Intl CA|33.942536|-118.408075|SC|KZLA|1
KLAX|Los Angeles Intl CA|33.942536|-118.408075|SL|KZLA|1

As it stands, it looks like VAT-Spy is (for some reason) matching both the first and fourth lines simultaneously and drawing two labels at the same location:

5154c0d592.png

IMHO, the only valid entries in the list above would be the first and sixth (the one to cover SCT_APP). When I pare down the above list to just those two entries:

KLAX|Los Angeles Intl CA|33.942536|-118.408075|LAX|KZLA|0
KLAX|SoCal Combined|33.942536|-118.408075|SCT|KZLA|1

then VAT-Spy only draws the "KLAX" label as I would have expected.

If you can explain where all of the extra entries came from... I'd be very curious to know. Otherwise... consider the above shortened list for KLAX a requested replacement for the current list.

This looks like the right thread, but please correct me if I'm mistaken.

What will it take to update the Honolulu airspace name and identifier for VATSPY?

We want to replace:

PHZH with HCF

Honolulu FIR, USA with Honolulu Control Facility, USA

HNL_CTR -> HCF_CTR

Thanks in advance

See the post just above yours. Chris has stopped providing updates for VATSPY. The Accomeap team can work on the sectors for you if you can provide us with the sector information. http://accomeap-project.com/dash/sectors

Just a few notes to your previous requests (yes, I still follow this topic from time to time ):

We have at Austria 2 new station, and hopefully you could intigrate it into the System.

LOVV_N_APP -> provide APP service for LOWL and LOWS

LOVV_S_APP -> provide APP service for LOWG and LOWK

Don't know if this is possible

Unfortunately not possible with VATSpy in its current state. VATSpy cannot determine any sub-sectors by underscores, e. g. LOVV_N_APP is handled the same way as LOVV_APP. Only solution would be to [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ign another callsign to both units without underscores, for example LOVV-N_APP.

We want to replace:

PHZH with HCF

Honolulu FIR, USA with Honolulu Control Facility, USA

HNL_CTR -> HCF_CTR

Replacing the FIR designator which is shown as label inside VATSpy, that is "PHZH" with "HCF", is no optimal solution because VATSpy will then think the FIR is located in Somalia ("HC" is its country ID ). If you replace the FIR description "Honolulu" with "Honolulu Control Facility", VATSpy will display this as "Honolulu Control Facility FIR" or, if controlled, as "Honolulu Control Facility Center" which is a bit weird IMO. Thus my suggestion: add the following line

PHZH|Honolulu|HCF|PHZH

to VATSpy.dat and leave the rest unchanged.

I see you still have strong "bindings" to VATSpy, but always keep in mind that the software itself will likely not be updated in the future and has some strong technical limitations, especially in displaying sub-sectors.

Hi Chris,

it is really sad that you decided to stop after all these years of keeping this simple and lightweight albeit slightly limited in functionality, but gives us all the basic and essential info we need. Thank you so much all these years, and if you do decide to do a little update again (which I really hope you do), make sure to let us know

Thanks once again, and all the best!

I'll tell you what, I appreciate all the work that Christoph has put into this so far. He's really done a fantastic job and who could blame him for wanting to take a break (even if he does decide to check us out every now and again and see how the thread is going).

I'll be more than happy to take the latest update that Sachin has provided and update it with any updates you guys have in the mean time.

Once I have the first set of changes I'll provide you all a link to download and we'll go from there, I'm more than willing to keep this going as I still use VATSpy and will do as Accomeap doesn't quite suit my needs (even though it's a brilliant piece of software)

Cheers!

I agree with you Rahul, IMO if Chris needs a break let him take it after all this is just a volunteer work.

Thanks for stepping up.

After discussions with Ross Carlson, and a few volunteers coming forward, Caribbean Division (VATCAR) has officially taken on responsibility of future VAT-Spy updates. URL for this project is http://vatspy.vatcar.org/.

Alex,

does this also refer to updates on airport data?

IMO, won't it be easier to catch such requests (delete, add or modify airports) here at a separate forum thread? They could be fetched up regularly, transformed in "XML snippets" and sent to you via mail. Requirement: users must provide valid proofs for their requests.

What do you think?

Christopher-

Any and all data [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ociated with VAT-Spy we're maintaining, this includes Airports. We have two methods for data submission, either direct email or the preferred method of a pull request via GitHub.
