I hope voice is still in the works. I fly in VR and it is almost impossible to use 122.8 as I can't see my keyboard.

Yes from my understanding the new voice system has this implemented

Just as a note, not all members (including controllers) can use voice so you must still be able to communicate on text.

Hi,

I confirm, this situation is very concerning with the rise of VR in 2020.

VR = Voice Only, especially while hoovering a helicopter with a good controller that cannot fit close to a desk and requires dedicated seat.

This leads to several communication problems, once even I entered in a CTR after the controller said good bye, and turned off TWR. Not realizing that 5 minutes later, an other controller took over the TWR. Of course, I had several unread text messages on the 122.8 when I went back to my computer desk.

I have countless records of similar problems, that even once led to a penality.

Today, it's not possible to have TXT messages in VR. It's not in Avitab, and x-pilot seems hardware accelerated, so cannot be included in the cockpit with tools like movevr.

The very strict minimum would be a TTS (text to speech) for the incoming text messages, and some predefined replies, including one providing currently tuned frequency. Then why not allow 122.8 voice on a smaller range like 20-30NM ?

VR brings experience to an other level of realism, immersion and sensations. I bought VR setup exclusively for X-Plane and a couple of helicopters, it's amazing.

Can we continue to ignore VR ?

Where can we get the latest status ?

I thought all approved connection clients had text?

Voice is an addon. Even if I use AFV my connection client still receives server messages.

No, voice is nowadays the preferred means of communication, text is a fallback. Pilots should still be able to receive and text messages at all times, because ATC may be asking to be contacted.

So you did not hear any warning sounds about incoming chat messages? Please configure your pilot client accordingly to avoid missing important text messages, this is really essential.

I think the problem isn't the client (which receives and displays the text just fine), but the fact that you're not actually looking at the client UI, because you're behind those VR goggles, and the existing VR setups apparently don't relay text messages from the client.

I think a neat solution would be to somehow add a virtual "pager" device to the virtual cockpit, and show the messages there. Ideally with a notification sound. You may not be able to type an answer, but at least you receive the messages, and you can still answer with voice (because AFAIK the vast majority of pilots, and virtually all controllers, can *hear* voice).

Barring that, text-to-speech is, I think, the most realistic solution.
