Alex Bailey 969331 Posted October 6, 2007 at 05:43 PM Posted October 6, 2007 at 05:43 PM UTC is Universal Time Coordinated, and basically UTC and GMT are the same. At the time of this posting the UTC time (zulu) is 17:45 Alex Bailey ZMA I-

Alex Bailey 969331 Posted October 6, 2007 at 05:47 PM Posted October 6, 2007 at 05:47 PM There are a couple grey areas where UTC is not the same as GMT, per meaning of the terms, but it is too complicated to go there. It stands for Coordinated Universal Time, a compromise for the english and french speakers of the International Telecommunications Union. Anthony Atkielski 985811 Posted October 7, 2007 at 01:17 AM Posted October 7, 2007 at 01:17 AM No, UTC stands for nothing. It was chosen precisely because it stands for nothing. An English abbreviation would have been CUT, and a French abbreviation would have been TUC—the two sides could not accept the other side having the official abbreviation, so UTC was chosen because it stands for nothing. Sounds just like this forum. I've checked my facts pretty well. Timekeeping is an interest of mine. All the clocks, watches, and computers that I have are synchronized with UTC. Anthony Atkielski 985811 Posted October 7, 2007 at 01:35 AM Posted October 7, 2007 at 01:35 AM The individual letters do not represent individual words. UTC is not an abbreviation; it stands for nothing. It is itself the designation of the time standard, not just an abbreviation for the designation. In the same way, UNICOM stands for nothing. UNICOM is the name of the entity, not an acronym for something else. I wish there were an antagonist for testosterone without side effects. Dan Everette Posted October 7, 2007 at 04:11 AM Posted October 7, 2007 at 04:11 AM I'm sure Anthony can clearly explain how UTC doesn't stand for anything. I'm sure he can provide references to his statement, as he does will all his other statements... I won't even go into time standards, clock frequency standards, current hot topics like "GPS Time" and the fact that UTC does play a significant role and does mean something when you are talking about timing. So, Anthony, your references? -Dan Everette CFI, CFII, MEI Having the runway in sight just at TDZE + 100 is like Mom, Warm cookies and milk, and Christmas morning, all wrapped into one. Some say God is all-knowing. I've yet to not find something i was looking for on Google. By simple equation we can then say Google=all knowing and God=all knowing which means Google=God.
