Will there be an Oshkosh event?

The coversation is on track with the thread. It was mentioned that Oshkosh needed (was requested) to be controlled for an event, (or event that some members requested.)

Thus, I asked, can "anyone" control at Oshkosh?

Meaning, can "ANYONE" (ARTCC MEMBER OR NOT) "Untrained" control at Oshkosh, If it is a non major facility?

The original question continues to remain unanswered....

Can a non member of the ARTCC plug in and control, "IF" Oshkosh is a non major facility ???

No.

You would need to become a visiting controller.

And in most cases receive a competency check before being allowed to control the non-major facilities.

Contact the ATM of ZAU - it's his sector, his decision.

It's a question for any ARTCC operation. Not for an individual ARTCC

Some ARTCC's require a local competency check to allow a controller to plug into a minor facility, some do not and require nothing but asking the ATM for visiting controller status. It really depends on the facility, so there is no one answer.

Well it's a Global ratings policy, not a global continuity policy. There has been a bit of flexibility built into it

So much for global continuity huh

That's where you are misinformed, Dennis. The global continuity comes from the fact that a S-1 in Chicago should, and does, have the same competency as a S-1 in China. Both locations will still require the controller to become a visitor, and may even require a little more training to understand the local environment. However, the receiving ARTCC will not have to teach them to tie their shoes again. Catch my drift?

Several Opinions, but no official answer !

Okay, here we go, official policies cited! To recap, your question is: "Can a non member of the ARTCC plug in and control, "IF" Oshkosh is a non major facility ???"

2. Visiting Controller

2.1 Visiting controller is a status granted by a division to permit occasional controlling for a controller from another division who is operating outside of their HOME division.

Regardless of whether or not the facility is major, minor, LCTP, or whatever - if you are a NON-MEMBER of an ARTCC, you may not control there until you become a MEMBER through either a permanent transfer, or per visitor status.

And to make it more succinct:

VATUSA Visiting Controller Policy - 07/06;

6) Controllers must apply for Visiting Controller status and must be accepted before they can provide ATC services within the ARTCC to which application for visiting status has been made.

6), b) The ARTCC to which a controller has applied for visiting status may, as part of the local competency training process, evaluate the controller as to their proficiency with respect to the core competency requirements of the Controller Rating Guidelines for his/her current rating....

6), d) Visiting controllers will be expected to read, understand and follow all local operating procedures established for the facilities in which they provide ATC services – no exceptions.

So, nothing has changed in a year? It's the same as it always was?

Why don't you tell us all about the plan you would have in place? We're all ears. Seems to me that the policies that were laid out have worked quite well over the past year (at least that's what you seem to be questioning). Fill us in why don't you.... you seem to be an advocate for change.

Talk about your thread hijacking

Tell me about it. They tell me each time something like this happens, a forest gnome gets his life taken by falling blue ice. I'm seriously thinking about seriously investigating this travesty and putting these bloody hijacking peckers in the place they deserve. A big vat with grapes.

I thought the policy on this topic was pretty straightforward.

Steve, as you and others know, the policy is very clear.

Mr. Whitley is obiously still upset about being fired as VATUSA1 some time ago. He's chosen to take to the forums to garner some public support for his 'cause' after efforts to plead case elsewhere failed. His 'cause' is to try to discredit myself and others in whatever way possible. He seems to disregard the facts surrounding his dismissal. I (and others) showed a tremendous amount of patience prior to his release. It's regrettable that it had to come to someone being dismissed, but it does happen from time to time.

What in the world? I peeked in this post to find out if there would be an Oshkosh event and I just see a giant political discussion on stuff that happened years ago. Next time start a new topic.

I take offense to a non-vatsim event being advertised on a vatsim forum. I think this topic as gone off topic then back on in the worst way. can we get it locked?

The discussion was whether or not to make it a VATSIM event, it was certainly relevant.

No, the issue is that it's against VATSIM forum rules to post events on other networks. I've seen threads locked / deleted for less. That is all

I don't think its reasonably possible to organise a VATSIM event, but I think OSH in VATSIM will be very active during next month . But for me - the real thing is the place to go! Will be there for the whole week!
