Jim Allan Posted March 12, 2009 at 09:18 PM Posted March 12, 2009 at 09:18 PM As of Sunday night last, ACD has shut it's doors. This was a complete suprise to the membership, and for a majority of us, to quickly join other VA's. It would greatly appreciated, to at least me, that if applications to other VA's from ACD pilots are recieved, that allowances be made for hours flown with Air Canadian. Thankyou, Jim Allan ACD608 If you don't know the answer...at least make it sound convincing
Luke Kolin Posted March 12, 2009 at 10:58 PM Posted March 12, 2009 at 10:58 PM As of Sunday night last, ACD has shut it's doors. I'd be delighted to start another VA based on Air Canada using the Golgotha code base that Delta Virtual and Air France Virtual use - I'd just need a half-dozen dedicated adult volunteers who'd be willing to volunteer their time and some money for hosting fees (which I'd match). Seems like technology is the limiting factor for a lot of VAs. I can provide the tech, I just need the volunteers. Cheers! Luke ... I spawn hundreds of children a day. Jim Allan Posted March 13, 2009 at 06:26 PM Posted March 13, 2009 at 06:26 PM Luke, it would be a great idea, but unfortunatly, Air Canadian is registered trade mark, and you'd have to talk to Sylvan first. PM me and let me know just what you had in mind. Jim If you don't know the answer...at least make it sound convincing

Seems like technology is the limiting factor for a lot of VAs. I can provide the tech, I just need the volunteers. Cheers! Luke here are a few suggestions if you are interested in starting a new VA. There are a number various "Air Canada" types of VA's already os it would be very hard to try and mimic those, however, there at least 3 that are no longer operating in Canada.... 1) "Trans Canada Airlines" bought out by Air Canada in the early/late 60's. 2) "CP Air"...not sure when this one went by the way side.(edit..NOTE - My apoligies, there is a CP Air Virtual VA on Vatsim, just found it....sorry) 3) "Canadian Pacific Airways"...same as #2.... None of these are in operation at this time and they would make a very good starting point, if one was interested in resurrecting these older Liveries as "imaginary" VA's. Below are some screen shots of those liveries and where they can be found. The possibilities are endless. Historic Jetliners Group http://www.simviation.com/hjg/main.htm The following can be found in their "Download" section. 1) The old "CP Air" livery http://www.simviation.com/hjg/aircraft/douglas/dc-8-63.htm http://www.simviation.com/hjg/aircraft/douglas/dc-8-50.htm 2) The old "Trans Canada Airlines" livery(and I have this for the A320) http://www.simviation.com/hjg/aircraft/douglas/dc-8-40.htm and 3) Also on the same page is "Canadian Pacific Airways"(just above the "Trans Canada" one) http://www.simviation.com/hjg/aircraft/douglas/dc-8-40.htm Rick Dwyer PSS - Just a few screenies of the "Trans Canada Airlines" Airbus. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b183/vac2198/Air%20Canada/Screensnap20.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b183/vac2198/Air%20Canada/Screensnap08.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b183/vac2198/Air%20Canada/Screensnap07.jpg Edited April 3, 2009 at 11:52 PM by Guest "Flight is Life" quotes the CRASH

Sandeep Nathwani 879930 Posted August 5, 2009 at 07:58 PM Posted August 5, 2009 at 07:58 PM Sorry to bump/hijack this thread, but if any former ACD pilots are without a virtual airline, check out Canadian Airlines Virtual. From now till the end of September, we've relaxed our 75 hour transfer cap to 175 just for ACD pilots..and for any other simmers, its at 100 for the month of August. I just recently re-coded our entire website from scratch in ASP.NET...it used the same language previously, but the code was in shambles, and it used an inferior database. The re-write also ensured that we're using the latest technology- this new site is more geared towards ASP.NET 3.5, rather than 2.0. Our custom ACARS application is currently being re-built for the new server. http://www.flycav.com/ And Luke, if you're still wanting to start another Virtual Air Canada, I say go for it. Being a potential competitor, I'm not sure if I'd be able to help you, but from a personal point of view, I think its possible to do better than VAC.
