Bill Casey Posted June 20, 2009 at 06:13 AM Posted June 20, 2009 at 06:13 AM There was an annoucement late last week that they were physically moving the box in the data-centre and that it would be down for an evening. Presumbly they've had a spot of bother during the move. Bill Casey

Phillip Speer Posted June 20, 2009 at 12:25 PM Posted June 20, 2009 at 12:25 PM Dominic, The server is hosted (I believe) hosted in a data centre that has many other customers. I suspect it needed to be moved by the data centre for their own reasons. The timing wouldn't be deterimined by VATSIM-UK and we have to fit in with their system. The only part that is down is the webserver, VATSIM is still working and there's no reason why the Liverpool event won't take place. I'm sure if there's going to be a prolonged delay in getting the website up and running Anthony will be along to update us all Phillip VATSIM UK Divisional Instructor
Anthony Lawrence Posted June 20, 2009 at 01:11 PM Author Posted June 20, 2009 at 01:11 PM Anthony will be along to update us all ...and here I am Right a low down of the situation (from what I've been told). The server was moved on Thursday evening as planned, however the data centre moved it into a room that was too hot. As such, the server overheated and then died (again). It was up during the early hours of Friday morning as all of the nightly scripts ran successfully (so everyone would've been bombarded with emails about mentoring sessions, exams, whatever else they're subscribed to RTS System wise). During the firday I believe the server remained off during the entire day coming up for only 10 minutes last night (around 2330BST ish). I'm yet to speak with Lee and try and find out what's happening at present. Rest [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ured though, all data is safe (there are remote backups) and if the server is expected to be down for a prolonged period of time I'll see what I can do to offer an alternative arrangement for the RTS System & Realops site (being the two most important systems at present). I'll keep you all updated should I hear anything. I can only apologise for the prolongued downtime we've seen recently, it isn't the best I must say Thanks, Anthony

How many 'UK site down?' topis exist on this forum. Its ridiculous Seb theres no need for the attitude, the VATUK site has only been down a couple of days and its the recent downtime Ian was asking about. Just because there are loads of topics about the VATUK site being down doesn't mean it will give the reason for this particular downtime(for which there is only 1 topic which was mentioned above). Whilst it is causing pilots a spot of bother (looking up their routes, ETD and ETAs etcetera), the the downtime is doing little to effect the controllers, as this was all pre-planned and well organised. All we need to do is make sure everybody turns up, which is unpredicable and out of our hands. I know all about datacentre stuff,If required, I can offer you tempoary free cPanel hosting. Anthony Lawrence Posted June 22, 2009 at 07:02 PM Author Posted June 22, 2009 at 07:02 PM Hello all, Just got in! Not much to report other than the server is still down - I'm doing my best to catch up with the server owner and find out the current 411. The last I heard was the server had been moved but there were problems with it (although we're unsure as to what exactly it is). I'll do my best to keep you all informed. Regards, A... Bill Casey Posted June 22, 2009 at 07:39 PM Posted June 22, 2009 at 07:39 PM I'd suggest sticking to this thread, Anthony, and get the others locked by Uncle Norman. This one has the most appropriate title to it! The server does seem to be intermittant right now, I've been in to it and then not all day but for what appears a temporary problem I see little point in setting up an alternative bookings procedure since, with the UK site doing a fiddler's elbow impression, we're just going to get bookings crossing over each other - not that peoiple would argue about which is official or not, much Bill Casey
