Chicago or Denver, I can see. Hell.. even Omaha!

But there is one thing we should consider, and that is that we're thinking like ourselves, at age 7: spoiled brats (myself included)!

If we have this, we should also think about the VATUSA widows/widowers among us, as well as the children. While we're off at this convention, they'll need something to do, should they come along. So, we should consider that with the city selected, relative to the dates of the convention.

Most places will still be thawing out from the winter, depending on how bad it is, but it is something to think about..

This isn't a family vacation, I'm not going to plan for the family of 6...

Right. But don't put the convention in Middleofnowhere, Nowehseresstate, USA. If it is in a larger city, or near one, you can reason with your wife/husband/parents/ that it would be a *Great* *family* vacation as well. *hint hint*.

I think it should be in New Orleans. In the middle of the US, with the french quarter, KMSY/KNEW, 50 cheap top notch hotels with convention rooms, D-day musem, and about 500+ sites to see, New Orleans would be perfect for a convetion. Most flights into MSY on SWA are also VERY VERY VERY cheap!

Go New Orleans,

Brad

I was afraid of people making suggestions this early, without knowing anymore info. I'll join the bandwagon and say Atlanta, there, you have my suggestion.

I'd have to suggest just about anywhere in sunny southern California. I'm not sure I'd make it, but there's tons to do down here if you bring family along. Six Flags, Disneyland/California Adventure, Knotts Berry Farm, Seaworld...

Funny thing is that none of the suggestions being put up here will be taken in to account... LOL...

If that's the case, I put my vote for Point Barrow, Alaska. By that time of the year, they should start to have their 24-hour nights, making a mockery of all-night college parties. Not to mention that you'll have plenty of ice for your kegs.

Who's all for it?

Most hotels, if you get a certain amount of people, will offer conventioneers a price break. I got an absolutely awesome double full room at the Dulles Hilton for 85 per night (inexpensive in that part of the country). By far the nicest room for the price I've had in a while. Save for the four a.m. fire drill. That same room without the break runs about 199 a night.

C'mon Mark! At least you HEARD the 4am fire drill!!!! Some of us ended up being "incapacitated" by those developers plying us with drinks all night in the hotel bar. My head still hurts!

And no Joel, Mike and Ben....RJ really didn't sign over VATSIM to you guys!!! Well, at least as near as I can recollect.

George, I was about as "depleted" as any of you guys were...I rediscovered Vodka Tonics that night. I remember thinking what a horrible joke that was. Ran into Ernie Alston downstairs; thought I was the only one in the group that heard it.

Had to be someone holding their lighter upto the detectors and thinking "this is going to be FUNNY"..haha

Hi,

Unbelieveable! You are all saying you want it closer to you! Pffft! I have to fly out from LONDON to attend!!! Anywhere on the East Coast will do!

Seriously - If the date is pretty solid, I'll try and be there, no matter where!

Best regards,

Robin "The Guy the Otherside of the Pond".

This is a VATUSA convention. I still believe that we should have it somewhere centrally located, that way it's most efficient on travel expenses. That would be most fair.

Just to throw out an unwanted opinion... but I voted for St. Louis, MO.

And to justify my choice:

  • - Near the geographical center of the U.S.
    - Tourist attractions
    - St. Louis is where it all started with Archie League at Lambert Field

I understood perfectly that you couldn't submit suggestions here before I submitted my post, but this thread gives others something to think about before they submit theirs as I did. I would hope that everyone reads threads before replying as I do.

Just a question (and for comic relief)..

Would American Samoa qualify for a hosting city?

It has something for everyone.. Water... Mai Tais.. Water.. Mai Tais...

And for the rest of the family... Water and Mai Tais.

Hmm, I wonder why. I mean, considering this is a VATUSA Convention, it would fit in perfecting at the N or S Pole. I'm so cynical, sorry.
