Hello

I made an application to work with ProSim737 (an avionics suite simulating the Boeing 737).

It has support for HOPPIE to exchange telex and performance messages sent from TOPCAT.

You can also use it to send text messages to the VATSIM software client window.

I just started the work on CPDLC(with hoppie).

An uplink message looks like this:

CPDLC2.jpg

It needs some more work, but the interface is already functional and I can exchange messages with hoppie already.

The second part of this video shows a message sent from TOPCAT being received in my CDU. (the first part is a direct integration with TOPCAT)

The message is sent using Hoppie.

This one shows a loadsheet sent from TOPCAT being received in my CDU for printing.

Regards

CPDLC will be good in the prosim UTILS for worldflight next year, we used it a bit during worldflight 2014, but found a few problems, and some of our crew don't care much for the toys in the CDU, the owner of the sim thinks I bring the new pages with me every time I show up at the sim!

The main problem was, and I think I brought this up on the prosim forums, is with ACARS you cant find out who the message came from, and there is a line limit, it seems like only the first 1 and a bit lines of text get sent.

Regarding the Aerosoft CPDLC I asked on their forums, some beta tester told me that they were waiting on SWIFT pilot client to be developed and were going to make a system that works with that.

Hello

Currently there is no limit on the message size in ProSim or ProSimUtils. About the sender, this is something that will be available in ProSimUtils 1.5. I'm writing a completely new messaging module.

If you have any suggestion to improve ProSimUtils even more, just PM me.

[EDIT]

I made a video of a couple of CPDLC messages being exchange:

Hi,

A little video to show what's coming up in the next version of my ground plugin:

It's basicly an integrated datalink clearance system, it'll work wether you use the ground view or not, and requires little configuration. Sorry for the lack of annotation or commentary, if you have any questions don't hesitate.

Nice, can it be automated to provide automatic clearances?

Technically it could, but I don't think it is a good idea to have clearances sent automaticly without you knowing. The process is already fairly automated, the only thing you have to do is click "confirm" then "send"

It's mainly that that's how it works for real, at least where I work.

Interesting! Where do you work? If thats the case, I guess you have some kind of DMAN that takes care of preparing clean clearances, thing that we do not have yet on vatsim.

EGCC, the same system is in use at several big UK airports (EGLL, EGKK, EGSS to name a few).

No we have no DMAN, but our PDC is connected to our EFPS (Electronic Flight Progress Strips). When it's in automatic mode it will check the pilots entered aircraft type and stand against the EFPS system. If it's correct it will base the clearance on the active dep runway in EFPS and pick a correct SID based on the flightplan, the squawk is already there.

If the pilots enters incorrect data the system will alert us and we have to force it through manually.

We can also set it to semi-atuomatic mode when we manually have to force all the clearances (similar to your video). It's used for runway change periods and when we have non-standard departures in use for some reason. But most of the time (maybe 90% roughly) it's in automatic and we don't have to touch it as long as the pilots don't enter anything incorrect or any text in the message.

Hi,

A little video to show what's coming up in the next version of my ground plugin:

That's really, really cool! Considering that Hoppies network already works, it would be really cool if this plugin became popular. The only think we need then, is for addon makers, to implement the pilotside client directly into the aircraft, so we don't need a separate window for that too, but considering that the hoppie network is fairly open, it shouldn't be too hard, should it?

I don't know why it hasn't been done yet, yesit is pretty simple to implement, even though the docomeentation is a little light, you can figure it out. The only thing that annoyed me is the formating used by Hoppie, it's not anything standard like JSON or XML, but just text that you have to p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] by yourself.

I have recently started to use CPDLC (Hoppie Acars) to comunicate position reports during oceanic flights. I manage to establish the link with ATC e to submit my position report, but, in the position report page I can only fill in information relevant to reported fix and expected one (including ETA) but I cannot fill in any info about Flight Level and Ground Speed ...the relevant LSK in the MCDU are simply not accessible.

Is it my set up, a bug, or am I missing something ?

Hi Ezio,

great to see that you found interest in CPDLC!

Which program are you using exactly, the CPDLC Airborne Hoppie Client?Have you also started the WFAcars program? It will enable bit that takes care of position reports: http://www.hoppie.nl/acars/prg/acars-msfs/

Ciao Andreas,

yes..I am using the CPDLC Airborne Hoppie Client ...I have installed the three modules, ACARS MSFS, ACARSAIR , and MCDU, as per the instructions in your ACARS CPDLC Quick Starter (thanks for the excellent manual.. )....once started I have the Broker, the Airborne Station and the MCDU running, ..I can successfully log on to the Hoppie Network and to the available ATC....I can request and receive PDC, but when I am airborne and I want to send a position report I can only input data about fixes (which are duly received by ATC) and I can also exchange text msgs with the logged on ATC station, but I cannot input Flight Level and Ground Speed in the position report page. So my question is if this is normal or if I am doing something wrong.

Regards

Hi Ezio,

actually, if you would to use the POS REPORT you will have to keep the "WFAcars" active (step 3.2.3 in the Quick Starter Manual). So, do NOT invert "rem" in the .bat-file for the WFAcars-program. Then you should be doing fine. I will probably change this section so people do not deactivate this program anymore.

Hi Andreas,

apologise...I just saw now your last message...Yesterday evening I just edited the .bat file to remove the "rem" as per your post below, but I didn't test it online...this week end I might have some time to test it and I will let you know...thanks for your help anyway..very much appreciated.

Ciao
