vPilot is heavily dependent on SimConnect

Hmm, this is interesting. I wonder if MSFS has SimConnect? If not and they have something completely different, it will take even longer for Vatsim to arrive on that platform.

FSX plus 1 = FSY.  I totally get it, and in fact I kinda love it ❤️

Well, nvm then my first post. 🤣

Finally, we are improving SimConnect support and are developing an automated testing framework to help guarantee SimConnect keeps working with subsequent updates to the sim.

Hallo. Here's another one who is very interested in the possibility of flying as real as it gets with Vatsim through MSFS 2020!

All the questions that kept coming in, but I'm glad we were able to announce it this way!

That's what I call timing! Yesterday I ordered the upgrades for my PC and was wondering how long I'd have to run FSX on it because of the missing VATSIM client... I guess the answer is: Just long enough to read the first reviews.. Thanks to all developers for making this happen!

I am very happy that there will be a synergy between MFS and VATSIM. Without it there would have been an unnecessarily isolated MFS community.

However, I cannot but feel that the announcement is little more than hyping a forthcoming link between MFS and VATSIM. Hardly revolutionary🤔

Not surprised by this announcement at all - - not sure why it wouldn't work. Heck, it almost works as is now and it's still simconnect so if it didn't work out of the box I think you would have to be worried about VATSIM's future.

Now, as to the new sim...well...

I'm very tempted to finally build the computer I've been thinking about for almost 2 years...I'm guessing my current 35 fps in XP11 and P3D won't carryover to MSFS.

I can't help but laugh at this.. or should I say laugh WITH this.

Ever since I started a family, I told myself I wasn't going to build computers anymore, since that was all that I did in my free time, outside of being a linux sysadmin for the past 20something years. So when we had my daughter, I built one last rig, and that was going to be it:

  • Gigabyte Z77N-WIFI miniITX motherboard
  • 8GB Corsair DDR3 1066 memory
  • Sapphire Radeon R9 200 3GB GDDR video card
  • Too many SSDs
  • Intel Core I5-3750K CPU (yes, this is Ivy Bridge!)

I went with this setup because of being able to turn this into a Hackintosh if I wanted to. This, running Windows 7 has lasted me through FS9 all the way through P3Dv4.5, with all sliders at max, and I built this in 2011. So for the first time in 9 years I'm contemplating rebuilding this all over again, especially since Macs are going ARM/Apple Silicon (which kills my need for Intel), some software I need for my business dropping support for Windows 7, and now this.

In short, I'm right there with you! I think the only things I'm keeping are the SSDs and the case, as I'm staying with the MiniITX form factor. But yeah.. time to contemplate those PC builds, everyone!

so i wonder how its gonna work tho, with the ms2020 it shows smoth flying  formations how will that work with vatsim as at least in p3d fsx xplane ect vatsim flying is not lag free and you see the aircaft bouncing back and forward.

FSX's own multiplayer servers deliver other players' position reports to your sim with significantly less latency than VATSIM does.  I presume FS2020's multiplayer network will too.  VATSIM will continue to have position latency on the order of around 5 seconds, for now.  A team is working on the FSD server infrastructure with one of the goals being to improve this.

-R.

Maybe this is part of the “amazing updates” they’re announcing over the next few weeks.

It may be refreshing every 1s, but that doesn't mean it's not going from ~6s ago to ~5s ago each time.

If improved latency is part of this unveil, that'd be a surprise -- though, surely, a welcome one.

if i am not mistaken ads-b data is refreshed at about 1 second. however irl the screens can also have a higher refresh rate of 5 seconds.

the 1 second refresh could be used as the flightaware ai uses ads-b data.

Two Quick questions to the people who are lucky to be in the alpha group ...

Can FSX and MSFS coexist on the same system, and can I install it on a separate disc from the OS?

Cheers

Presumably, like any modern software you can control where it downloads/installs, and other games should not interfere with the MSFS installation.
