Wow,

That was easy. Hats off to the CTP Organizers. Logged in at 7:00 (1300Z) in one go, got my slot EHAM-KIAD as DAL1054, logged out at 7:01 (1301Z).

Almost too easy. Makes me think I did something wrong.

Only took me about 8 tries amid "this webpage has timed out" errors, but thats aussie internet, amirite?

Got LOWW-CYYC, as planned. Slightly later slot time (1200z) than I would have liked, but hey, who cares, at least I have a slot. Thankfully my preferred callsign and SELCAL were free.

Now let the wait begin!

LOL. That was me a year ago. This year it took me a couple reload attempts to get through. Still got the airport pairings I picked as my "first choice" and one of the earliest available timeslots, so, 2 out of 2 primary goals met. Then, neither the callsign nor the SELCAL I wanted were taken (though I didn't expect they would be) so 2 out of 2 secondary goals also met -- all by 1305z.

Cheers,

That also applies to me … Got my preferred city pair, TOT, callsign and SELCAL within a minute:

SELCAL: AJ-HM

From/To: LOWW/CYYC at FL350

TOT: 11:35:00Z

Ladies/Gents!

Grateful for another CPT (to all involve)!

Maybe it's not said enough, but I'm thankful for VATSIM and the dedicated individuals who contribute so grateful to this 'beloved' hobby (all staff/members)

Stream Link for the day (tentatively: Warsaw to Miami): click ==> FDX978 Heavy

See you all event day!

//FDX978

UPDATE: Congratulations to all! A show not to be missed!

Notwithstanding, after thoroughly searching the bookings for an EPWA/KMIA city pair - - I realized one of two outcomes: others booked before I did or the event organizers did not pair those two city pairs. I reckon it is the latter because I was logged into CPT's site at 1300z sharp, without a problem (splendid job on the site as always) and did not find any routing for EPWA/KMIA.

However, the alternative destination: KATL -- therefore, final booking: EPWA/KATL @ 1232z (I always opt for the furthermost city pair at CPT)

Purchasing/Installing: Drzewiecki Design's EPWA Warsaw Chopin Airport X | Warsaw City X and ImagineSIM's KATL 2016 for FSX.

Until April 14th -- you all stay safe!

Congrats to the organization team for another smooth booking day!

As usual, I have done some observations how the slots went away (at 1430z I had to leave for a private visit, and the 1531z sold out line was not seen by myself, but it was announced on twitter - I did not expect the slots to last such long!):

CTP_2018W_SlotBooking.png

First minutes are not complete due to my own booking and some delays in website reaction.

All this data in a CSV-file: http://www2.dolgner.de/Attachments/CTP_2018W_SlotBooking.csv

All data from 2016E until 2018W in an Excel XLSX-file: http://www2.dolgner.de/Attachments/CTP_Slot_Booking.xlsx

I reckon it is the latter because I was logged into CPT's site at 1300z sharp, without a problem (splendid job on the site as always) and did not find any routing for EPWA/KMIA.

Apparently you are right: Even the strongly demanded city pairs like EHAM/CYYZ, EHAM/KJFK, EGLL/KJFK or EGLL/KMIA needed at least 10 minutes to become sold out. But from the beginning there was not any slot from EPWA to KMIA, and even neither from LOWW to KMIA or from LEBL to CYYC.

So long,

Joerg

Got my confirmation email so I guess it really was "too easy". I cannot even begin to heap praise on the planners, organizers, and everyone even slightly involved in putting "Cross The Pond" together.

Thanks for all that you did, do, and will do...

I have already booked one flight. But for personal reasons, can I take off early about 2 hours?

No one will stop you from doing it. No one's going to hold you at your computer and make you finish the flight. Disconnects happen for a multitude of reasons.

My personal opinion is that you should give up the slot for someone who would like to do the complete flight. You can still fly during the event, you just won't have a scheduled slot.

EDIT: Oh, you meant START the flight 2 hours early. Well again, the controllers are going to be trying to squeeze you in amongst the scheduled slots that are occurring at that time. So, you may face delays. But you can try. And it would still be courteous and preferable, in my opinion, to drop your scheduled slot and allow someone else to take it.

EDIT 2: I don't speak for the organizers of the event. I'm speaking from my understanding of how the event slots work.

Cheers,
-R.

Thank you for your reply. I still hope to have a flight number for the booking. However, I will try to take off early. I am looking forward to participating in such projects as CTP. I hope the controller can approve to let me take off earlier. All need to see my luck.

The better option is cancel your book and fly the event without slot. If you try to fly later than your slot time you will have the same delay than fly without slot.

Hi Guys,

First of all thank you for all your guys' hard work in making this event happen yet again, and making the booking system smooth. Managed to snag a LEBL-KIAD slot but now I had a few questions for any controllers (or those knowledgeable with the matter):

- What is your opinion on flying Non-RNAV, Non-RVSM aircraft for CTP? Will controllers be able to accomodate it? If so, should I coordinate with them before hand, or simply mentioning so in my RMK section of flightplan would suffice? Does VATSIM implement North Atlantic HLA or simply RNAV10 would suffice? (through INS for PBN on the nat-track)

The reason I ask is intend to take the *hopefully* soon-to-release Aerosoft DC8 across the pond this Saturday. That thing is equipped only with dual-independently operating INS (with DME updating), apart from traditional VOR/DME/NDB equipment. (/I equipment code).

The INS shall be used for Oceanic Enroute flying, but terminal departures and arrival will have to be conventional Nav-aids based. So i'm concerned with how routing would work, and whether controllers would keep a seperate NAT track for those flights, as is often done IRL (atleast until 2020).

If not possible, the alternate is to whack the F1 GTN650/750 in there to suddenly make it /G but would love to know

Thanks,

Rich

We won't be creating a routing specifically for non-RVSM/RNAV aircraft.

Hi Rich!

I'm not a virtual controller, but a virtual pilot with a little CTP experience. So maybe I can answer some of your questions.

A DC-8 with 2 INS is very well RNAV, but only basic RNAV (BRNAV).

I have flown 4 times on CTP with a Boeing 747-200 with triple INS, and the last CTP from KMCO to EDDL with a Boeing 707-300 with only a single INS. It works, and being Basic RNAV only was not a problem for the controllers.

But I never defined me as non-RVSM. In reality, these historic aircraft were not able for RVSM, but in the simulator they are, because the altimeters work always exactly (I don't know how the altimeters of the DC-8 will work, but on the mentioned aircrafts they do it). Being non-RVSM requires more vertical spacing around you and will increase the workload of the controllers, and it makes hardly a difference for you. So I did it without being non RVSM.

So I think you can use the DC-8 for a CTP flight, but maybe better not this one. I would strongly recommend to use an aircraft which you have flown many times, not an aircraft which is almost new for you. You should know your aircraft by heart! So if you are not a real life DC-8 pilote or have much experience on comparable aircrafts in the sim, I would recommend you to use the DC-8 in autumn for the eastbound flight.

So long,

Joerg

Thanks for your prompt response.

TL;DR - Sweet. Wilco.

Long version:

Duly noted and glad to know I'm not the first to be quite venturing into this. I agree in the sim it hardly makes a difference regarding RVSM but I thought better to ask before a controller or supervisor throws a fit at me for filing or doing something incorrectly.

And yes I agree about taking only aircraft you're most familiar with onto the network, especially at m[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ive events like this one, and I do normally practice the following mantra- Aviate (learn to fly the a/c), Navigate (Learn to safely and comfortably navigate with equipment on board) and then Communicate (Take it to VATSIM).

Naturally I'll make the judgement call on that based on how this week goes but I am keen for a twist this CTP. I am familiar with the aircraft type and style of navigation having flown previously the Dream fleet 727 extensively with the CIV-A INS tool on VATSIM, and even trying my best to fly the JustFlight DC8 before this at realistic levels but was just unable due to shortcomings of that addon.

The only things is I have never tried to do so during CTP so I decided to ask. Nonetheless, you've been a great help and good boost to my confidence that I have a chance at attempting this. Thanks!

Hi! Vrishabh Sehgal lovely to see you're departing from Barcelona!

As described on the briefing-->https://ctp.vatsim.net/system/view/includes/LEBL-CTP-W-2018-pilots-briefing.pdf

If you can't fly RNAV:

"Once you have completed your planning, and are fully ready for start-up and pushback,

you can request clearance from delivery (121.800). If you cannot depart from 07R/25L, advice

ATC in your initial call to delivery, as well as if you are not RNAV capable."

Id love to see a vintage plane in the event.
